For those of you who do not know what Section 179 is, let me give you my simple definition: Section 179 allows companies to deduct full purchase price of qualifying equipment or software that was financed or purchased during the tax year. What this means in layman’s terms (which is the only way I know how to communicate effectively) is that if you bought, financed, or leased qualifying equipment in 2017, you are able to deduct the full purchase price from your gross inco
While doing a little research into search trends for Land Surveying and Land Surveyors using Google trends, it is quite interesting to see that overall, searches for land surveyors worldwide have gone down significantly since 2008. Would you venture to state your opinion as to why this might be the case?
Should Land Surveyors as a whole be alarmed by this downward spiral in search?
Do you have any ideas as to how we might inject a better image of surveyors to the world?
Just wanted to take a moment to tell you all how thankful we are for this community and for you. I hope you are all enjoying time with your family.
seems one has to put tracking devices into everything you own

Land surveyors mostly deal with UTM coordinates. Unlike other GPS apps, ‘GPS TEST’ gives you the UTM coordinates. So that the accuracy of survey works can be checked roughly in few meters. Just got settings and select UTM in the format and WGS84 or the required datum. It will display UTM coordinates with zone and altitude as well.

Every land surveyor with a cellphone is likely to have a few survey marker shots. You can see from our photo library that there are surveyor markers from all over the world that have been submitted over time. But what about on the fly?
We recently asked our followers on the Land Surveyors United Facebook Page to share their favorite photos of Survey Markers. The response was not only very exciting but very informative with (currently) over 60 responses. Check out the post and all comments
You’re on your way to a successful graduation and you’re thinking about your next step. It’s completely natural, we’ve all been there. What’s scary though is the notion of having to fight for your place in the market that’s full of your peers and newly graduated colleagues. So how can you stand out from the crowd and get a good job even though you’ve barely graduated?
Don’t put yourself in a corner
Even though you may be a major in graphic design, don’t look specifically for graphic design opportu

Travel safety. It’s a real concern, given the nature of the world today. And yet, we love it, and we continue to transport ourselves around the world for those new experiences.
There are some things we cannot control, no matter where we are. A pickpocket may target us; we might eat in a “questionable” place, drink the water, and end up with some serious intestinal issues; we might even be the victim of a more serious crime. Those of us who travel a lot or for long periods of time to think about s
We’ll show you ours if you show us yours!
At KPI we know why you already use or really want a Robotic Total Station. The remote operation allows for a one-man operation saving money and increasing efficiency. We can show you how to use any brand to maximize the benefits, we can show you how to take proper care of an RTS, we can even show you how we calibrate them.
What can you show us?
Send us pictures of your RTS operating in the wild, either doing actual survey work or go all Warhol on it. Everyo
I was at the airport on the way home from a work trip, carrying our survey instrument.
An enthusiastic young man approached me and asked rather loudly, "is that a gun??"
Dude. Be cool. We're at the airport. It's called a "total station". Haha.
