Episode 250 - Dr. Samuel Ariaratnam & Dr. Firat Sever via GeoRadio- All Land Surveyor Podcasts in One

This week, the Geoholics hit the big 2-5-0, and what better way to celebrate than digging deep — literally — into the glamorous, pulse-pounding world of trenchless technologies and underground infrastructure! Our guests, Sam "The Sultan of Subsurface" Ariaratnam and Firat "The Pipeline Picasso" Sever, taught us that real heroes don’t wear capes — they wear hard hats and dream of pipes bigger than your average minivan. We learned that Urban infrastructure needs trenchless tech like a…

DEWARD BOWLES published an article
I wrote this article 15 years ago and the code has since changed, however, this is as true today as it was then.  Chain! A recent article in the Journal of the Gulf Coast Surveyor Chain! Written by Deward Karl Bowles Texas Administrative Code, Title 22, Part 29, Chapter 664, Rule 664.3 now states: "Beginning January 2011, a registrant, to be eligible for renewal of the certificate of registration, must accrue at least twelve (12) hours of completed board approved professional development…

Stefan van der Merwe posted a discussion
Good afternoon,I dont know much about the newest equipment, and I hope one of the members would be able to help me. I was a hydrographic surveyor for 2 decades. I also bought my own new Topcon GTS-725 total station in 2004. I always use this instrument to do projects at home. This includes building, garden planning etc.I bought a secondhand Topcon GPT-9001A on an auction a few weeks ago, as my family is very difficult to convince to hold the prism for me. At last I can doe as much survey as I…

David Drahn posted a discussion in Hawaii Land Surveyors
I've been here 13 years but have been licensed for just 2 (surveying here foar about 10).  Is there a forum (here or ellsewhere) where we share experience in the mechanics of surveying in Hawaii?  I'd certainly use some mentorship in efficiently and thouroughly researching property history back into the Mehele days, reliable ahupuaa boundary determination, patent/grant, apana, allotment research, etc.  And on the tech side, are we able to use CORS for GNSS network control.  I see one on Mauna…

Earth Day at 55 – A Climate Reckoning
Earth Day has evolved from protest to policy—but the world’s environmental crisis has only intensified.

In 1970, twenty million Americans took to parks, streets, and campuses for the first Earth Day—a protest-turned-movement that demanded environmental accountability from the powers that be. At the time, rivers caught fire, smog swallowed skylines, and regulations were a whispered idea rather than law. That first wave of public pressure helped birth the…

Episode 249 -Sean Gorman & Zephr via GeoRadio- All Land Surveyor Podcasts in One

Apologies for the audio challenges...it was one of those nights!!

In this episode, the Geoholics crew sits down with serial startup whisperer Sean Gorman, co-founder of Zephr.xyz—a company so cutting-edge it probably triangulated this podcast before it aired. Sean, who grew up everywhere from Germany to the Philippines (basically Carmen Sandiego in reverse), shares how a life of constant relocation and rowing (yes, actual rowing) shaped his journey into geospatial tech…

The Vanishing — How AI Is Mapping History Out of Existence
It starts subtly. A parcel map is generated with stunning efficiency. A sleek interface displays terrain data, boundary lines, structures—all perfectly digitized. But something’s missing.
A shaded grove that held an unmarked cemetery. A long-forgotten footpath carved by generations of Indigenous families. A stone wall no longer visible from the air, but tied to a land dispute a hundred years old.
Gone. Not because they were disproven…
