With everything that is happening with the big tech giants this week, a lot of people are thinking about the sustainability of platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.  Quite a few that I have talked with are concerned not only with the future of their own personal data but also the questionable practices being used to monetize each and every aspect of our lives.  I just wanted to share with you just one conversation that I had today

When I started my career, I have been attracted by one (of many) question : how accurate is the surface/volume calculations knowing the uncertainties of the points that define these geometrical figures. I really wanted to know in term of standard deviation what would be the "end results".

The solution was to propagate the variances (standard deviation squared) into the functional model (the mathematical formula in short) and to retrieve the results I was looking for.

By taking the formula to deter

SECTION 179 TAX BENEFIT - Don't Miss Out

ONLY 28 DAYS REMAINING

For those of you who do not know what Section 179 is, let me give you my simple definition:  Section 179 allows companies to deduct full purchase price of qualifying equipment or software that was financed or purchased during the tax year.  What this means in layman’s terms (which is the only way I know how to communicate effectively) is that if you bought, financed, or leased qualifying equipment in 2017, you are able to deduct the full purchase price from your gross inco

For Recruiters

1198866670?profile=originalLast week a member who is currently seeking employment asked me how they could get in touch with a recruiter to find employment.  It dawned on me that although I had developed ways for recruiters to find job seekers, I had never added a category for recruiters.  So, today I changed that.   If you are a recruiter, simply visit Your Profile Settings and change the answer to the first question "I am here because I am...." to Recruiter.   Once enough of you have made this change, I wi

Picturization is important if a person want to understand a thing. It gives clear understanding

of the situation. Without picture being formed in the mind of a person, It will be like a dark

circle. So now days people are emphasizing more on the things which give them proper

understanding of actual thing. Like in case of drawings the 3D formats of drawing are more

preferred than the drafting which were previously used. It gives complete information in one

view. Software companies ares also coming for

Chain! Contracts and the Land Surveyor

By Deward “Karl” Bowles, RPLS

Not so long ago a firm handshake or a phone call were how business was conducted. The reputation of your firm was riding on your ability to fulfill the obligations of the verbal agreements you made with your clients. The quality of your service and product were judged by your ability to stand by the verbal contracts you made.

Those days are long past as society has become increasingly complex and increasingly litigious. I will be

11 Sloppy Social Media Mistakes To Stop

1198853740?profile=original

Sadly, I discovered something a couple of days ago while checking out my Klout Score. I had recently unfollowed a LOT of land surveyors on Twitter due to inactivity or simply lack of use and noticed that my score actually went up! I try to not unfollow surveyors who are on this network, but I am seeing that if I were to do so, I'd probably go up in score another 10 points. Why does this matter? Because the ever fluctuating Klout measures a person or entity's overall influence on the web, taking

Happy Birthday Land Surveyors United! Part Three

1198852440?profile=original

NOTE:  This is an update to an original post from 2011 on our 4th birthday

As you may have noticed from the top of the logo, it is Land Surveyors United's 10th birthday and to celebrate this occasion, I've decided to write the story of how LSU was created, the ideas which gave birth to this network and where it is headed. Keep in mind that I am writing these posts straight from my mind and will most likely not go back and edit them until I have reached the end, so just enjoy these raw memories

Land surveyors on LSU have created something that otherwise has been lost in the industry over time and that is both an International and a National Voice. With all of the recent disconnections and disassociations occurring industry-wide amongst associations and organizations (example NSPS/ACSM), it is important that we maintain this voice at the very least here on LSU. We need to see and read what others are going through in the field and continue to lend community support to our fellow profess

surveyors in the bibleExamples of Land Surveyors in The Bible by William D. Hatfield

The Bible has always been a reliable source for the history of the Jewish people. This historic account encompasses many esoteric and otherworldly encounters, but what is often overlooked is the overwhelming accounts of the day to day life, as well as, the professions of the common people. Seeing as how I work in the land surveying profession I decided to do some research into examples of the land surveying profession in the Bible.
