I am asked to mount the 360 degree reflector of my Trimble 5603 on a moving vehicle and start shooting and saving points. I have never saved points in my data collector when I'm' moving. I always stop, take the shot and go to the next point. It happened that I saved a point while I was moving, but the coordinates of saved point was incorrect and I had to delete that point, so my question is if what I'm asked to do is even possible. I'm open to rent a S6 or S8 or even other gun if the gun can do it. On other thing I was asked was that if I can save the time stamp every time I take a shot, again I'm not sure if the Trimble 5603 is capable of doing this.

This should work with a s6 or s8, but if you can be in "tracking" mode with your equipment then yes like Rob said just set up how often you want it to store a shot and go for it... Understanding that the accuracy is only verified by the more often you take shots and moving slowly to not miss topography. Run a few samples and compare against standard method to be aware of accuracy issues.
  • Before I got GPS...I did this all the time. Depending on your data collecter capabilities....you should have an "auto topo" function. It allows you to record shots as you move by time or by distance.

Once a robot is locked on...it's reading. So, as you move...it knows where you are...and thus...you can store shots every so many seconds....or set it up to take a shot every time you move a specified distance from the last point.

    Hope this helps.
