What do you specialize in?

today the job market seems to be looking for people who specialize in a certain area, like GIS, Database management, creating software applications etc.

for alot of us, we are required to keep up on the latest technology, minimum standards etc. through continuing education. and was forced to learn alot of this to become what we are today.

to me, my stamp is acknowledgment to anyone, that i am specialized in many sub trades/specialties that pertain to my profession "Land Surveying"

if you are a job seeker, you have noticed that employers are not looking for "Land Surveyors" or "Survey Tech's"... they are looking for people who have specialties or specialize in a certain area, this means to them you have the minimal background in desktop apps such as INTERNET explorer, excel, word, Auto Cad, ARC, VBA etc.

i have to ask myself, where is this heading? are we trusting our resumes to be sorted by an office tech, at a large firm where our resume may go into a pile somewhere and never be looked at? all because some programmer thought it should go to the "construction dept" or "safety dept"

i hope that the resume review, will bring us together, and spark some interest/discussion on how we can also manipulate the fast changing job market. by allowing others to review our resumes and critique them in ways we might get our resume looked at.

i know many on here have little gaps in employment and are on top of what you are looking for in an employee, head on over to the resume review and check out the resumes posted there and do what surveyors do best, give advice.
