Surveying Job Search Trends Explored

If you want to see just how bad the situation has gotten for the surveying industry as a whole, you could start by taking a close look at the search trends for the term "Surveying Jobs" over the past year. With the new surveying job board in place, I wanted to know how much traffic I might expect in the up and coming months, but more important, how many unemployed surveyors we might be able to help.  I had this idea last night about finding ways to analyze the amount of searches have been performed on the major search engines over the past year for the term "Surveying Jobs"-ie. searches by individuals looking for a surveying job locally.  What I found may not surprise you, but its definitely worth a conversation.

For this discussion, I have looked at Yahoo and Google search trends, using Google Trends Tool and Yahoo's new comparative search tool "Clues" and queried only the term "Surveying Jobs."  One quick note about Yahoo Clues.  It is a brand new tool and the search term "Surveying Jobs" returned no results as of yet, but you can see from the graph that searches for "land surveying" over time have increase dramatically.  Here's what I found.  Click on the images to make them larger

I would like to know your take on these findings.  What I am hoping to do with this information is open a conversation between surveyors across the globe about the state of affairs within the industry.  Where are the jobs?  What types of companies are hiring?  Why is the job search in Africa for surveyors so high across the board?  What can be said about the numbers relevant to gender and age?
Please add any thoughts which come to mind.
