Land Surveyor

What will be the most appropriate survey instrument to employ when mapping for elevations on a hill with a lot of forest cover without a laser instrument?

The forest cover is so think not only at the top but at the butttom as well making it impossible for you to walk through.

Looking at the virgin forest in the back ground of your picture, you will be cutting all day long. don't worry, you'll get a killer forearm like a tennis player LOL.

At best you can cross your fingers and hope you can do JT Henwoods idea. otherwise it's like the other guys said. Cut Cut Cut.

Interesting Billy, I have a total station. Whem I mentioned laser instrument I meant a 3d laser scanning machine. If I had one of those my work would have been a whole lot easy but I don't
      • Thank you Joseph, this clears up a lot. Now how about the Dam and the Gold mines?

    • Just think Guys, I think it was around 1971 the first total station was used ,so it hasn't been that many years, we all did this, should I say the old way. But it got done.

      • Joseph, Did you or did you not say, you have no Total Station ? Please tell us what kind of Instrument you have. Are you surveying with a steel tape or tapes for your distances, because if you are, kudos to you. I have been there and done that. Yep, in a jungle. Then its back to the basics my friend, just keep a eye out for the snakes and is that a dam you help build behind you ?

  • Blaze a trail. That's all you can do. It's hard work and time consuming but that's what we did on BPA jobs.
