It’s All Greek to Me
At one time or another you may have heard the terms “surveyor,” or “land survey,” or “land surveying.” You might have an idea of what a surveyor is–the most common image people imagine is of someone standing in the middle of a road, blocking traffic, with a funny looking “camera” on top of a large tripod. To be certain, that person is a surveyor, and that funny “camera” is what is known as a Total Station. A Total Station is a precision instrument used to measure angles a

Sadly, I discovered something a couple of days ago while checking out my Klout Score. I had recently unfollowed a LOT of land surveyors on Twitter due to inactivity or simply lack of use and noticed that my score actually went up! I try to not unfollow surveyors who are on this network, but I am seeing that if I were to do so, I'd probably go up in score another 10 points. Why does this matter? Hello!
I am interested in possibly starting up my own private land surveying business. I was just looking for some information and/or tips from some people that have done this and been through it themselves. With the amount of money needed to get into the business, i would hate to start off wrong. Some questions i would have are:
How much money would I be looking at to buy all the equipment and to get my business going?
How do I begin to determine what a person should charge when running a business
Modern day land surveyors are no strangers to devices which feature "bluetooth" capabilities and functions. In fact, there is a strong chance that you are either holding a bluetooth enabled device or sitting quite close to one. Nevertheless, most of us probably have no earthly idea where the odd word came from. So, for my first post on this wonderful network, I'm going to tell you.
Bluetooth
The word "Bluetooth" might have sounded stupid or humorous the first time you heard it. In fact, the

I received a phone call from Mr. Smith about a problem he was having with his neighbor Mr. Jones. They were in a boundary dispute over the location of a fence recently constructed by Mr. Jones. I warned him that if he hired me my opinion may not be in his favor. Mr. Smith signed the proposal so we began work on the project.
The project was in an area that I was very familiar with near the medical and museum district in the heart of the large city where I practi

[updated July 16] Boeing has received the first on-orbit signals from the second of 12 GPS Block IIF satellites it is building for the U.S. Air Force. GPS IIF-2, renamed Space Vehicle Number 63 (SVN-63), is functioning normally and ready to begin on-orbit maneuvers and operational testing.
After two postponements, the second GPS Block IIF satellite launched successfully from Cape Canaveral at 2:41 a.m. EDT on July 16. GPS signals from the spacecraft payload will be turned on for test purposes in
Teamed with multiple trade professionals for more than 8 months intricately our surveyor’s laid out the path to completion. Watching the woods being parted at the Brookhaven National Laboratory certainly was poignant. However, opening the provision of expanse provided Green energy and lighting for more than 4,000 Long Island homes. I considered it a true historic moment. A huge under taking, we utilized our Trimble robotic total stations, GNSS and conventional tools to perform like a well oile
