Perhaps we need to rethink the title the next time this comes up because some of what I plan to illustrate is the use of GLONASS with GPS. Perhaps we should call this Elevations with GNSS.
We will do our best to avoid Greek letters and calculations and focus on m
Scott,
It is all about Surveyors in the old days and Astronomy to determine the observer's position on earth to view the Transit of Venus like Captain James Cook did in 1769 in Tahiti and the use of modern technology doing the same thing these days using spherical Trig and Geometry for GPS. Also to bring these facts to students at schools to attract them to our career prospects. The Transit won't apper for another 11 years.

When I started building Land Surveyors United back in 2007, I never imagined that this project could become so enlightening. Every single day that I wake up on this earth, I am greeted by passionate and driven land surveyors from virtually every location on earth, sharing their experiences and finding solutions to their problems on the network. Together with RLS Scott Warner of Wisconsin, a set of dedicated calendar days have been determined which will fo
We're excited to have the support of American Congress of Surveying and Mapping in its last days. In the newest issue of the ACSM Bulletin, you will find a nice editorial about Survey Earth in a Day event, happening at NOON in all areas of the world on June 20th, the summer solstice.
A geospatial event of this magnitude has never before been attempted, ever.
There has never been an event in history which geospatial p

John Veatch has had a lot of experience surveying near the Gulf Coast. Unfortunately the John Veatches of the world have a pension for being 20 years ahead of their time. If you’re a history buff you might enjoy this.
John Veatch came from a preacher’s family, growing up in Indiana and Kentucky.
His father was also a member of the Indiana legislature. He received a good education with background in medicine, geology, and botany. In 1829 at the age of 21 he traveled south to New Orleans where h
Fellow "Survey the Earth in a Day" surveyors: When you pick points to log, consider going to Google Earth first, find a visible pin pointed intersection that you can see plainly from the aerial, then log it so that Google Earth can use our work to adjust their aerial photos to fit more precisely rather than our standard survey markers that are not visible on their photos. That way everyone benefits!!! Also submit all your logged "points" with all the data that can be used for the SAGES. Search o

Do you have any old tack balls laying around that you'd like to share??? Let's see them!
