Triangulation is the mathematical method of finding numerical values through measurement from 3 points, which form a triangle of one form or another.
Precise leveling: The instrument used in first- and second-order leveling is a precise level. The
instrument is constructed of materials that have a low coefficient of thermal expansion. It is of the
tilting type and is equipped with three horizontal hairs (often referred to as threads or wires) for
determining the rod reading and length of sights. Generally speaking, you cannot use a total station such as the Leica 407 to do this, as it cannot by definition give you the first- and second-order precision required.
You can however triangulate an elevation using your total station, but it is not recommended, especially at the distance you are trying to cover. However, if you had a verified** TBM close enough to the temple, you should be able to triangulate from the TBM to the top without loss of much precision.
**By verified, I mean running a "bench loop" from the original BM to a new TBM near the temple and back and mathematically checking back in to the original BM.
This of course all stands to bear by what your level of accuracy is that you need.
