   Hi Jason,

  I will include a different brand other than Hewlett Packard. A good surveying  calculator for someone just starting out. That comes with already preinstalled survey programs is a Casio fx FD10 Pro.

  It is design to work in the field. This is one of the first calculator that comes this tough. So it is built to last and withstand the outside elements. So this may not be what you want for school. But anything built like this is made to last. But like the HP Prime you can not use it for a NCEES test or exam. How every that said, As far as i know there are only a few calculators made to day that come with survey programs already installed. And it is user friendly,but like anything you pay for the extra's and then some.

  It starts at around $235.00 dollars,but your getting a well built calculator and 21 programs for surveying.

  But that is the plus. I have used Casio's along with HP's and they do use two different program languages.

   But here is what you get. And this is a Professional calculator for anyone.But you may still need a scientific  calculator, that I would get the HP 35s,but Casio and TI also makes calculator for this.

  I just prefer HP's and using RPN.

  Hi Jason or anyone looking for a Prime Manual,

  There are plenty places to find one just make sure you have the newest or the version you need.

  There are several version out,most will work on how the Prime works,but there are some changes

  in some models. There are also different versions of emulators and connect kits.

  Hi Jason,

  Here are the calculators you can use for the NCEES. Your school may let you use more advanced,

  but the HP 35s is the most advanced in the NCEES list. Go to HP .com for more info.

   HI Jason,

   The HP 50 G is also a good calculator, it can also use surveying software. Jacob Wall and a few more have survey software for it, this is a very advanced calculator similar in some ways, that it is a graphic calculator too,as the Prime but it programs language is RPLisp. It uses a SD card for extra memory.

   And they are now on sale. It has the same processor as the Prime. You can also download a free emulator for it,plus free survey software from Jacob Wall.  You will not find a better deal than that.

   Hi Jason, 

  You can download emulators of these two calculators, before buying them.

  This would let you see if you wanted to use HP. It is also a added plus to have them on your computer.

  The prime also has a connectivity kit for it where you can download and upload software and copy and paste programs . The Prime also uses apps. and can run  in Home and CAS at the same time. No other calculator can do this.

   Hi Jason,

  If your planning on getting your license, PLS or PE you will need a calculator that is allowed

  to take your test. The HP 35s is the best for this if you like to learn RPN math or programming.

  Reverse Polish Notation, is used on it but it will also run in Algebraic mode if that is what you like, just like any other calculator. There are advantages of using RPN, equations,programs and solving math problems,they are shorter. Have you talked to any of your teachers yet,about what they use. If you also need a Graphic calculator I would get a HP Prime, this maybe the best calculator in the world today.

  But it is not allowed for a license exam. but could be used at your school. So you will need the HP 35s no matter what or a TI or Casio or Sharp that is allowed for the test. The HP 35s cost 60 dollars, and well worth it,this is cheap compared to units before this time, the Prime is 160 dollars. But if you plan on becoming a surveyor or engineer, learn RPN it will change your math for life. Also the Prime uses  HP PPL language similar to Pascal's computer language.but macro RPN can also be written in it, using

  HP PPL to control it read my discussions  on them.
