Land Surveyor

Increasingly we see a disconnect between the public and Land Surveyors. Here is a prime example of the symptoms of this sickness in our industry.

It has become so bad that Land Surveyors are now faced with a situation where they must educate even Real Estate professionals about what a Land Survey is and the benefits of having a Land Survey performed.

It seems the focus has become boosting the profits as much as possible for the Title Insurance Firms, Lenders and Realtors. They have been allowed to contribute to the complete meltdown of the Real Estate Industry through their powerful lobbies and self imposed rules (or should I say elimination of any rules). The general public is completely ignorant of this because they are not Real Estate professionals and rarely have any experience in a Real Estate transaction. Problems remain dormant for many years before they explode into an often expensive and contentious climax.

The news is rife with story after story these days of schemes to game the system by Realtors, Lenders and Title Insurance firms, all to the detriment of the public at large. Land Surveyors are few and are often unheard when it comes the politics of Real Estate transactions because they are drowned out by their powerful cousins, Realtors, Lenders and Title Insurance Firms. We as Land Surveyors must learn to educate the public and others in the Real Estate Industry about the benefits of a Land Survey or we will face extinction.

very true....in fact, as a real estate ninja in NYC for past 10 years, I have found it to be a hot topic of exploration and education.  Here is a guest post I wrote for the SC Property Pros of Charleston on their construction blog.   I've gone down this road several times, but its true...there is a definite disconnect between surveying and the public's understanding of its importance...nice post!
