  • Hi Lee,

Spectra evolved from TDS (Tripod Data Systems) and that says a lot and that is why Trimble  made it part of their company.

Both have many years in making products for surveying. Both are top of the line companies.

And expect the best from both.  They have been  a part of Trimble since 2000.  TDS made some of the first software for the HP 48 GX calculator, this changed and proved that Data collection was the future of surveying and showed how a calculator had a duel purpose in the field. This also lead the way of how Data collectors evolved into what they are now. I still have two TDS Survey PRO 48 GX cards that work like new today and someone is always trying to buy them. Go to ebay and check out their prices. there are many surveyors here that loved their TDS 48 and when it was gone we move on to  TDS Recon. And that is the rest of the story.

You might like to tell us which models you are considering and for what use as comparing brands in general will usually lead you down a lonely road..

    • The SP80 gps. Any idea how this compares with the Trimble R10? From what I'm reading it seems Spectra equipment is Trimble's budget brand?
