Geodesy isn't my strongest suit, but is it that orthometric heights are, by definition, void of a geodetic gravimetric adjustment?  (showing my professional ignorance on the topic) But by what course do the two relatively similar results systematically diverge?  Good question.  I don't know.   Please add your thoughts.

      Hey Scott

Im thinking Gravimetric heights take into account the geoid and forces of gravity to determine a possible height where as Orthometric heights are a height on the physical surface of the earth above or below the geoid and determined by surveying with an orgin point where mean sea level heights have already been determined?????

it is a funny one as i have googled so much and have found some people calling orthometric heights gravimetric so slightly confused.....

Here is some info about that:

If the link doesn´t work try google GRAVIMETRIC HEIGHTS VERSUS ORTHOMETRIC HEIGHTS

    Hope it helps

Thank you Anuar Aliz, I logged in at academia.edu and found the paper you are linking to.  Although I am not a geodesist, It appears well written.
