Using a Trimble R8 with a external radio, HPB450, trying to do a RTK and Infill survey, I am losing reliability of the radio before I even start the survey.
I started the base reciever and go to start the rover and before I can even start it the reliability goes from 100% to 0% in about 5 seconds. I haven't moved the rover at all. Battery power is good on all compponents.
Any solutions?

Check your antennas. They tend to crap out after a short period of time. Also, if you are hardwiring your receiver into your handheld, check the cable.

I don't know , if this answer can help you, but I'll look cables, conections them, the radio chanels configured in the software.
I'm sorry by my english.
Sorry i'm a couple of days behind you now, but from what I've just read if you had success, did you also get some distance? using the Base external radio, you have a problem with Tx..transmitting to the Rover, at a steady percentage. This could start at the connection, check and clean, and make sure that the coax wire is not bent. When other people aren't use to the connections it's easy to bugger it up. It doesn't sound like a cable, but i have heard more port problems lately than I have ever heard before. Sounds like the freqs are OK, just FYI you have to have a Pacific crest utility software and a laptop to change or add freqs..so it not all that easy for someone to do it. let me know how it's going when you use it next.

Guide to Wireless Data Links
Find the link to the little book at the bottom left corner of the Pacific Crest web page. This should be required reading for everyone who operates a wireless data link.
Little things like a checkbox for "use modem" and the like can be solutions. I am familiar with Pacific Crest PDL radios and I use PDLCONF to check these parameters. I don't know if a HBP450 is a radio that has internal configurations that can be changed, including frequencies, etc., but it sounds like it can based on my reading between the lines. First of all make sure that the communication type is "TrimTalk450" <<very important. After that I don't know what to say, except that I do know some experts in this that could easily solve the problem. Let me know if you need some contact information for them.
The radio was set to channel 4 and the freqs matched. I am going to try the "R" scan feature. It is our equipment and it was working fine, someone got ahold of it and decided to change the configurations around. " If it isn't broke why fix it."
I know this sounds basic but make sure your on the right channels, and if on channel 1 switch to another you maybe getting stepped on..if in an area where other things are going on..especially if you don't have specific freqs.and your using stock freqs. that are standard in all units. You might try the scan feature which is a "R" I believe and see if it puts you on a clear freq.
It sounds like the BASE is transmitting, is the Rx light coming on..for receiving?
I always tried to keep a scanner available if working near other things, ports, airports, transportation projects, and construction sites, etc.
are these your radios? if rented they could be setup with different freqs for different channels if not paired correctly.
Last but not least, cables...80% of the time it's cables
Hope this works
