Hi All,

I have been looking around to purchase a Gunters Chain and have not had much luck. If anyone knows of one for sale I would love to hear about in order to add to my collection.

Regards

  • They are on eBay quite often.  Some are 66', some 100', even see some 33 footers from time to time.

  • Oddly enough I just saw an add in Ontario Professional Surveyor for Hayward Iron & Metal, which carries the antique 66 & 100' chains. 1-800-787-7420. No surprise that there is enough old surveyors around to actually create a market for this.

Try Mojave Instruments in Signal Hill, Calif they have everything related to land surveying "old & new". Ask for Kim, he is the owner and a wealth of knowledge.  Good luck

  • Do you want an antique or a replica. I know someone who makes authentic replica's. If you want an antique depending on the quality. I have two 1) a two rod chain made some where around 1800 I would need to get $500 USD, it uses brass rings as tally's. I also have a a 100 US foot chain, no handles, late 1800's. Usually bought to make two chains one 4 rod and one 2 rod.

  • I also saw a number on eBay ranging from $39 to $99
