GeoEducator

Helllo all,

I am using currently a Trimble R8 and it is starting to show its age. The computer still runs Win CE. It also has some malfunctions from time to time. Is there a way to refurbish it to today's standards? On another level, I have quote for a Trimble R8S and would like to know what are the equivalent GNSS I could use? We use our trimble as a Rover RTK connected to the FDOT bases using RTCM3 corrections. We have a 4G LTE hotspot to communicate with the base.  We use the Trimble for land surveying as well as for georeferencing GCPs whilst conducting photogrammetry. We are getting a HDL32E mounted on a Matrice 600 pro for Lidar surveying next month.

I have seen some Chinese based GNSS with Trimble boards but I am unusre whether there is a good alternative or whether Trimble remains the best solution.

On the side note: I quite successfully connect to the FDOT base using my Emlid RS+. The issue is that it is not as reliable as the Trimble R8 and I am not sure why? I generally use two RS+ one as a base and one as a rover for high precision surveying.  I am considering bying a RS2 but I am unsure if it will exhibit the same issues as the RS+.

Thanks for your tips. Commercial inquieries welcome since I need to provide bids to the University.  Please PM me for this as to not clutter this thread. Thanks.
