I'm the author of Construction Surveying and Layout: A step-by-step Field Engineering Methods Manual by Wesley Crawford, and I need your help. I'm working on the 4th edition and I want to strengthen the Construction Staking sections of the book by adding in more staking situations. That is, I want to add 2D , but preferably 3D illustrations of construction layout situations that show where stakes should be placed for various structures that need laid out. A simple example would be a box culvert. I will show a 3D of a box culvert and will show stakes along the centerline of the culvert and along the centerline of the road and the stakes at the end of the abutment, and any offset stakes for everything laid out. I realize the stakes may not be located exactly the same for every box culvert, but if I can show a generic view of the typical stake locations, so that someone who is entering the world of construction surveying will be able to tap into your knowledge of where to set stakes for various structures, such as; curbs, catch basins, utility poles, utility lines, pipelines, sleeves in floors, sleeves in walls, sitework, rough grade, blue tops, highway signs, etc., to name a few.
What I need from the LSU members are 2D or 3D sketches of as many different structures or layout situations that you have laid out showing where you feel the stakes needed for the crafts to construct or excavators to dig whatever it is being located.
Many of you already have 2D sketches in your fieldnotes that show where you placed stakes, so you could send them as is or convert them to 3D that is more illustrative and easier for some to learn from. You can post your submission in this discussion or scan your submission and email it to me at my email [email protected] . Thanks in advance for your assistance. If I find your submission to be something that I don't already have, I'll include it in the book and list you as a contributor.

Terrific request... let me see if we can get this out to as many surveyors as possible.
