Tomorrow (June 21st) is the BIG DAY for Land Surveyors, worldwide. Not only is it Day 5 of International Surveyors Week, it is Survey Earth in a Day 7 and an ideal opportunity for surveyors of the world to UNITE in order to inspire the next generation and promote a better public understanding of how important land surveyors are to society and civilization. We only hold SEIAD once per year on the solstice - the longest day of the year. Collect your data at noon when the sun is the highest locally. We're hoping to capture data for a full 24hrs, submitted from everyone's location.
Participation is FREE and simple. At Noon -YOUR local time- occupy a nearby benchmark and set up your GNSS equipment to log a point and submit the data to the community. Important: Snap a few photos of your setup and upload them here or any short video of your setup here. Feel free to mention your company and the type of equipment you are using and when we mention your posts, you'll gain traffic to your site or project.
Tagging Your Posts
Our goal is to A) help you help yourself and your company by providing a geolocalized showcase of your experiences and challenges. B) We consider your posts as contribution to the global surveyor database of knowledge- The confluence becomes essentially a Surveyor Brain and library of experience.. In order for this to hap The more descriptive you are about your post, the higher your chances will be for it to be categorized in more than one way. For example, photos tagged with a location name like Philippines we are able to pull all photos tagged 'Philippines' or posts tagged Marker will show just photos tagged 'marker'. Please try to help the community stay organized by giving your photos the attention they deserve...2 extra minutes on your end saves us hours of time editing titles and guessing locations...
Posting from your phone is simple. Come back and edit your post with photos when you're back to a computer..
You promote your experience in surveying and we'll promote you. It is that simple. It could result in a new job in land surveying or a student surveyor internship for college.
We've made it super simple to log your point via the home page of the mobile rover.
Measurements made tomorrow will serve as comparative data from prior events and to expand upon the database of logged points - points submitted will be layered atop submissions from previous years. NOTE: If you submitted a point in previous years and have access to the same marker previously used, please attempt to submit from the same point so we might see subtle changes in the Earth's surface not noticeable by satellites.
Survey Earth in a Day 7 is a terrific opportunity to come together once again as a global surveying community to gather data and increase public awareness of the surveying profession. It also provides a forum for teaching others about the significant contribution Survey Grade GPS is making in their lives and communities each day. Those new to GPS/GNSS and the surveying profession will have an opportunity to observe local surveyors in action and learn more about the importance of the profession.
Survey Earth in a Day is a FREE event for professional land surveyors and students of #surveying worldwide. If you are an educator, this is a great classroom exercise you can host with your classroom!
