THE DEAD END OF THE TRAVERSE METHOD

One of the typical survey method for determining station's points and survey details has been the traverse method. There have been considerable discussions on the way to "adjust" angles and distances and lot of rules of thumb while rigorous Least Squares Adjustment softwares are available anywhere.

I would say "too much" talks and controversial exchanges for a method that is simply not appropriated anymore considering modern instruments. Long traverses (geodetic) have been anyway replaced by usin

SOFTWARE FREE BUBBLE GNSS ROVER RTK

Good news for all of you who are using a GNSS RTK without the fancy tilt meter and IMU onboard !

You can turn your today GNSS receiver to do the "free bubble style" by mixing up 2 technologies that popped up last year.

The first one is about software receiver as we learnt we can feed the digital signal processing part of a GNSS receiver into a smartphone and the second one is that we don't need to take the GNSS survey pole vertical !

My approach of this problem has been developed and tested alread

Plotting while measuring saves time and make the drawing accurate with no ambiguities. Creating accurate drawings is painless with a Bluetooth enabled DISTO device. If you paired the Distometer with AutoCAD mobile app, the Plotting can be done simultaneously.

First turn on Bluetooth in both devices and pair them. See the image below.

Amazing Survey Markers Around the World

With Survey Earth in a Day just around the corner again, knowing where your local markers are will come in handy when deciding where to submit a point from. Aside from our growing collection of Survey Marker Photos (photos tagged 'marker' inside the community), occasionally we will share marker photos on our Facebook Page which surveyors around the world respond to with, of course, their own marker photos.  Take a look at this post for example and the comments which followed.

I stumbled upon a few interesting books that you may find as interesting as I have. These books will be particularly interesting to geodetic surveyors  and those surveyors across the planet who annually participate in Survey Earth in a Day.  Flat- Earthers may find them to challenge their theories.

A history of the determination of the figure of the earth from arc measurements

Introducing America's Building Records

There is a box or drawer full of old plats, blueprints and survey drawings that are collecting dust somewhere at your surveying company.  Why not scan them into a file archive and monetize them?  Imagine being able to sell access to those old surveys, retain the rights and permissions and make money twice with them.  This is exactly what America's Building Records is providing the construction industry- the ability to do just that.  Land Surveyors United recently partnered with ABR and would lik

Should Surveyors Be Alarmed?

While doing a little research into search trends for Land Surveying and Land Surveyors using Google trends, it is quite interesting to see that overall, searches for land surveyors worldwide have gone down significantly since 2008.    Would you venture to state your opinion as to why this might be the case?

1198868266?profile=original

Should Land Surveyors as a whole be alarmed by this downward spiral in search?

Do you have any ideas as to how we might inject a better image of surveyors to the world?

Travel safety. It’s a real concern, given the nature of the world today. And yet, we love it, and we continue to transport ourselves around the world for those new experiences.

There are some things we cannot control, no matter where we are. A pickpocket may target us; we might eat in a “questionable” place, drink the water, and end up with some serious intestinal issues; we might even be the victim of a more serious crime. Those of us who travel a lot or for long periods of time to think about s
