International Surveyors Week 2013 Has Begun

Professional Land Surveyors of the World UNITE!

As anticipated, the second annual International Surveyors Week begins now, once again uniting professional land surveyors on a global scale. During this week you will be accomplishing two important issues for land surveyors:

1) Educating the public regarding the importance of professional land surveyors to society and...

2) Cultivating a real global community for land surveyors to grow and thrive within. International Surveyors Week 2013 is an event during which land surveyors throughout the world will get gain knowledge from each other, demonstrate land surveying skills, and challenge the public image of surveyors worldwide.  For this reason, the days of this week have been deliniated as follows, allowing surveyors from all regions of the planet to contribute to the community with location in mind.

How to Participate in International Surveyors Week 2013

During the days of this International Surveyors Week, you will be asked to upload photos, share videos and share interesting stories from your surveying experience inside the dedicated location-based groups for your area of the world.

Notes for Photo Uploads

When uploading photos, always remember to give all photos proper titles and descriptions at the time of uploading and remember to add a subject tag with the name of your country or state, so that they show up inside your local group. For example, take a look at the photos which show up inside the Philippines Group, which are all tagged with lowercase philippines. Now if you were to search for Philippines in photos, you'd see that there are around 150 photos which reference the Philippines, but only some are tagged correctly. So, please remember to tag your photos with locations. If you find that there is not a group yet for your specific country, tag your photos with the continent (for example: Asia) and send a message to Justin Farrow if you'd like to have your country added to the global network. Tagging videos and discussions will work the same way. In order to have representation from all areas of the world, Land Surveyors United has broken down the week into specific days for regions of the Earth. All participants are encouraged to consider adding a discussion inside their national or regional group, which can include the photos and videos that you upload to the network.

Please reserve as much time as you are willing to contribute on June 21, 2013, at Noon, to strengthen and demystify the surveying profession, industry among the professionals of the world, the manufacturers of the equipment that you use, and among the general public, who may have little understanding of your role in the development of the infrastructure, scientific breakthroughs and daily functionality of the way of life that you enjoy and want to improve through your involvement.

Tell Us Where You Will Be @ Noon

While the week progresses, please take a moment to tell us where you plan to be at noon on June 21st here. Note: On Thursday we will post the official form for submitting your GPS data on Friday.

Survey Earth in a Day 2.0 (2013) will be building upon the foundation of the success of last year's first-of-its-kind Survey Earth event. Once again, on the day of the solstice, June 21, 2013, professional land surveyors around the world and members of Land Surveyors United will be simultaneously recording survey-grade GPS observations from thousands of locations around the globe, in order to both educate the public regarding the importance of professional land surveyors to society and gain a more accurate understanding of the Earth's surface.

On your behalf, Land Surveyors United has set up a system of communication using many of the most utilized sources in social media to help you along the way.
