Land Surveyor

Happy 4,000 LSU!

I would like to extend a personal and heartfelt THANK YOU to all the members of Land Surveyors United who have been a part of this community for many years and who have joined today. ย

ย

There are many things I have learned about our profession since I became a member, myself. ย One of those life-lessons is that if you take the time to share your knowledge with the world, you will be noticed. ย I shared my knowledge and I was noticed. ย

ย

Is it a coincidence that a man with an education in Anthropology and a background in land surveying (Justin Farrow / LSU Justin) offered me his phone number when I began to contribute content and discussions to the community when there were only around 1000 members?

ย

Perhaps it was a coincidence, since we had not met in person or anywhere else online. ย I was actually very skeptical of using social media at all. ย It took several months for me to realize that without using social media, I was wasting my expert knowledge without reason.

ย

Ironically enough, Justin and I have not met in person. ย We have been using social media and free video conferencing to communicate with each other, with members and officers of the profession in many countries, and yes, we do speak on the phone every day.

ย

Land Surveyors United is important to us because it is important to you.

ย

I do not receive any money for what I do, and yet I do what I do as the Senior Director / Editor for Land Surveyors United without compensation. ย Why would I do such a thing?

ย

Because I have seen the need for land surveyors, such as me, to be able to communicate at a global level. ย This is not merely a community where land surveyors from different parts of the world can discuss things that can be nearly the same everywhere, no, this is about knowing each other and identifying our similarities by understanding our differences.

ย

It is no accident that we all are here today reading about something so important. ย We can make the art and science of what we do, individually, every day, a more standardized and globally recognized method of handling things as a whole, together.

ย

To make the world a better place for our profession; whether it be job placement, technical questions and answers, or merely sharing a photograph or video of what we do every day will require the rest of the world to take notice. ย I think the world has noticed that over 4000 of us all have the same vision. ย Keep up the good work. ย I know I will.ย

ย

Scott D. Warner, R.L.S.
