Survey Earth in a Day is a FREE event for professional land surveyors and students of #surveying worldwide. Survey Earth in a Day 4DOn the day of the solstice June 21, 2015, geospatial professionals around the world and members of Land Surveyors United (a global support network for land surveyors) will be simultaneously recording survey grade GNSS/GPS data from thousands of points around the globe, in order to promote awareness of and a better public understanding of the surveying profession. Measurements made on this day will serve as comparative data from prior events and to expand upon the database of logged points.
When: 2015-06-21 - 2015-06-22
Survey Earth in a Day Event which occurs in mid June is a time for celebrating the land surveying profession and global surveying culture, worldwide. For those who are new to the community this year, SEIAD is when surveyors around the world simultaneously gather GNSS/GPS data from a known point near their location and submit it to the network, which we then plot on a map. This year, being our 4th year for SEIAD, submitted data will be layered on top of data from previous years. This day accounts as the largest geospatial event in history as it allows surveyors to participate in their own location. As June 21st steadily approaches us again, we are preparing for our 4th and largest Survey Earth in a Day event to date. This year it will be called 4D as we will be layering the data from our previous 3 years into a single map, representing points data gathered from thousands of locations around the planet by professional surveyors. With close to 3 thousand more members than we had even last year, we are hoping that all of you will participate from your location on June 21st.

Why hold Survey Earth in a Day on June 21st?
June 21st is the day of the solstice and the longest day of the year.
Why Gather Points at Noon?
Not only will collecting data at Noon allow most surveyors around the world to have plenty of daylight to gather data, it is also our way of collecting a steady stream of data coming in around the world, as Noon in one location is different from Noon in another location.

Can't wait for SEIAD 4D.... It's gonna happen Live and in 4D UHD..! :)
Soooo.. glad we are doing this again this year! Looking forward to it guys! Land Surveyors United UP!!!
Did you notice today that Esri has thrown up a project called GPSDAY which is supposed to happen next week? The form they use to submit data is exactly like your from last year..wow
Looking forward to it!
I know more control points with GNSS gives better accuracy and much higher than handy GPS but for what purpose you gonna use these data?
the coordinate date should be on a fixed known control point or just a random point? what kind of data you need exactly ?
Hi Peshawa, thanks for asking. This is a unique surveying event in which any land surveyor or surveying student/professor with access to GNSS equipment can participate from their own location. So, the aim in so far as the participants are concerned is simply to survey the entire surface of the earth as a global community in a single day. Our terrestrial ground control points compiled will give us a network map which can be overlayed on top of any web map and at some places will show us greater accuracy than can be achieved with cell phone GPS. From the perspective of the public, our measurements demonstrate the true importance of professional land surveyors to society as only a surveyor can measure with such high precision.
As for submitting your control data, there will be a system (even better thanthe one used last year) in place on the day of the event which captures the data that you submit and sends it to me and the Survey Earth Team for adding to the map. This years map will be layered atop of the other previous years.
Let me know if this answers your question or if you have any more. Glad you will be joining us!
Hi, can you tell me the aim of this project? and how to send you my control point data ?
Totally awesome and nice announcement... This is going to be the best year to date!
