Getting Prepared for Survey Earth in a Day 3D

Survey Earth in a Day 3D is a global surveying event, which is open for any professional specializing in the use of survey grade GNSS equipment, and/or the analysis of the resultant data. Our only requirement is that measurements be made with survey grade GNSS equipment at noon on June 21. In order to give us a rough idea of where everyone will be making GNSS observations, first, double click and find the location where you will be gathering GNSS data from @noon for Survey Earth in a Day. In the form that pops up, please tell us the type of location and a short description of what this place is.

NOTE: This is a practice run to help us achieve greater accuracy with your logged point. Everyone participating is encouraged to tell us where you will be roughly using this form. Saturday Morning we will place the form for submitting your point in the comments below this post, so leave a comment below in order to be the first to know when the form is posted by email. Thank you Surveyors!

The following animation shows you how to use the map-form.  Open full screen here or click to go to map and please be patient as we have a lot of users on map.

Open this map/form in the Apps bar at the lower right of your display, or click here.

You can also tell us where you'll be through our Facebook App.

AGENDA FOR JUNE 21
@ NOON: Simply take a GNSS reading at Noon. This can be at your home, office or jobsite. The goal is to have as many points around the world from as many locations as possible.
All data submitted to Survey Earth in a Day should be in RINEX format. If we all use the same format, it will be easier to post-process the data.
LSU will soon begin Live Q&A sessions with video on the SEIAD Google + Community in preparation of the event.
This will all occur at 12:00 Noon in all locations across earth.

Thanks for asking James The form to submit data will be placed here tonight at midnight and should be filled out with data collected at the point @Noon in your location.  When we recieve all the data from around the world it will be georeferenced and processed into a map layer, which will be layered on top of the data from the previous two years.  Depending on how many submissions we have from the same point, we may even be able to see changes in earths surface over the course of 3 years..

Another question, where is the data sent to? Who uses it to get a better understanding of the earth's surface?
  • Land Surveyor
Where is the form to send in the RINEX data and when does it have to be sent in by?

If you are reading this, be sure to leave a comment here so you get the email notice when the official form is posted Saturday Morning...feel free to ask any questions you might have..looking forward to the big day!
