Establishing a permanent base station on highrise building roofdeck for the duration of construction project would make life easier and faster for a surveyor to carry out daily GPS activities.
Has anybady has knowledge on this matter, I want to know the procedure?

  • Provide inclination sensor then this could not be a problem.
  • I wouldn't recommend GPS on any high rise building due to the sway, But if you absolutely must, then make sure you set control on the ground with it in one day all around your work area. Come back and check into the points throughout the day with the GPS and then never use the base again. From there, use the control you set on the ground with a total station or theodolite. Your base point for GPS is critical and cannot be used once it has moved, you would need to relocate the base's coordinates every time it moved, which in your case would be constant. I would ask other surveyors in your area how they deal with such things, as I can't recommend the use of a moving base.
  • The building moves too much, it would be OK for the radio transmitter if you could set the GPS antenna on something more stable, like the parking structure and run the radio signal up a wire or use a radio as a repeater.
  • GEO Ambassador
What kind of equipment are you using?
    • For fist order stations ,its better   to construct your stations at a firm and stable ground

    • I'm using trimble r6 gps....
  • not encourage for 1st order surveying for building was designed to sway to give way to stress releases not rigid as many believe and if does so your network will be affected. make on nearest mountain within the radius of your radio capability.
    • our project is situated within the city of abu dhabi wherein highrise buildings do exist and our project is a 3.5 km subway tunnel, i have no choice but to place my base station on among the tallest building within the vicinity.
      • Repeat:

Set Base on stable point, transmit corrections to highrise, set the radio as transponder, now you can go anywhere within range and get good corrections, as the location of the transmitter does not directly affect accuracy, Fly me over and I'll fix it for you!
