I am a huge advocate of setting the corner where you believe it is located at but this example is ridiculous in my opinion and speaks to the continued deterioration of our profession.
The Surveyor who set this iron rod on top of the one I set 10 years ago actually calls for my iron rod as the corner in the field notes they filed for public record. Apparently this was not communicated to their field crew who dutifully set the Surveyor's capped iron rod almost directly on top of my own. It appears they actually drove my capped iron rod out of the way in an effort to set their own.
