Where are you surveying?

Trimble R8 OPUS Collection

I use Trimble R8-3 base and rover quite a bit to locate and stakeout. There are times where I need to start the base/rover and locate things but I'd like to have the base collecting data for submission to NGS for an OPUS solution. Does anyone know how to start this OPUS data collection on the base R8 and then how to download it from the base once the collection is complete? Thanks!

  • ^^^ not the battery compartment, but on the bottom of the receiver
  • The method as described in the reply by Mark Sidler works. I personally generally collect Static data using both of my base and rover receivers at the same time. I have Survey Style set up in my TSC II named R8 Static. I set it up to stir the data's on the receiver rather than the TSC II data collector with my epochs set at 15 second interval.
Downloading this data requires you to connect the receiver to you computer using the 9 pin cable and the port located inside the battery compartment of the receiver.
This is just how I do things. Hope this helps.
    • Thanks!!

  • Start the base in RTK + Infill Ā  This will collect data on the Base. Ā Might check the Survey Styles settings in the RTK+ Infill to make sure the data logging is on the Receiver not the Controller. Ā The rover can be in RTK as it does not need to log the static data.

When you done shut down the RTK+Infill survey. Ā Down load the file into TGO or Trimble Office and convert to Rinex for submittal to OPUS.

Once in a while you may need to hold the ON button on the Base Ā R8 for at least 1 minute which will clear out the old files so that there is room for new ones. Ā But it will hold quite a few sessions.

    Hope that helps

Check out http://www.dc-survey-software.com for dynamic coordinate geometry software.

    • Marcus, Thanks for sharing this!

What is starting the base in "RTK+Infill" and how is that done. I realize now from your response that I probably should have mentioned that I run the R8s with with a Ranger 3 running Survey Pro 5.5.1.

Apparently when you say to start the base in RTK+Infill, the RTK+Infill is a software command in Trimble software, is that a good guess? Is this command activated through the data collector software and starts the internal logging of the data file that will later be downloaded from the R8 for the OPUS solution,

      What is TGO?

I really appreciate your help with my trying to understand this process! Thanks!

  • Survey Legend

I happen to have the manuals for the R8 attached which may help until someone else comes along with a better solution. Ā Good Luck Ā sorry i couldn't be more help

    • This should be a big help! I'll check through them. Thank You!!!!
