Trimble Pro XRS newbie question

Hello,

I'm hoping someone here can help me with getting some old Trimble equipment to work, please?

I'm not a professional surveyor, although was very many years old, and have no experience of using GPS kit, so please forgive my ignorance.

I bought a Pro XRS receiver with antenna and TSC2 a while ago and haven't managed to get it to work yet.

The TSC2 powers up successfully and I can view the menus but, when it tries to find satellites, it says that it can't. I have three batteries, only two of which seem to hold 12v but one of these is pretty good. However, there is no sign that the receiver is switched on.

Should I see something light up when the receiver is connected to the batteries? Will it work with just one good battery or do I need two? I've tried to test the connectivity of the power cable to the receiver and one battery connector seems dead but the other is OK.

Other than trying to connect a car battery to the receiver, and I don't know the polarity of the power supply to do that, I wondered if I could power it up without the batteries and, potentially, faulty cable. Is the power cable just a straightforward power cable? If it was, I could probably make something myself but don't want to risk connecting a power supply the wrong way round as I am unsure if there is any reverse polarity protection in the receiver. Any help would be very gratefully received.

Many thanks

Mark

  • Hi Mark.  Though I'm not sure about the ProXRS, I do know about the TSC2.  First of all, what kind of software are you using in the TSC2?  If it is Trimble Survey Controller, you will need to go to the Survey Styles inside of Configuration and set up your radio and other Base and Rover options to match what the ProXRS requires.  If it is TDS, I'm afraid I don't remember back that far :)

    • Hi Chris,

I think the TSC2 has Asset Manager loaded? But I will check. Thanks for your suggestion.

      Regards

      Mark
