Stained Glass Stan had been a professional land surveyor for over thirty years, and he had seen just about everything that could happen on a job site. He had been called out to churches before to perform as-built surveys, but he had never experienced anything like what happened to him on this particular day.
As he was perched on the benchmark, pencil in hand, measuring and recording every detail of the church's structure, a bolt of lightning came down from the sky and struck the very spot where he was standing. In an instant, he and his trusty horse, Sugar, disappeared from sight.
When Stained Glass Stan opened his eyes, he found himself in a strange, new world. He was no longer in the church, but he was not outside either. He was somewhere in between, surrounded by a kaleidoscope of colors. As he looked around, he realized that he had been transported into the stained glass window of the church.
He turned to look at Sugar and found that the horse was now a stained glass statue as well, standing beside him in the window. Stained Glass Stan knew that something extraordinary had happened, but he was not afraid. Instead, he felt a sense of wonder and awe at his new surroundings.
As he explored his new home, he discovered that he could move from one panel of the window to another, as if he was walking through a doorway. Each panel told a different story from the Bible, and he found himself engrossed in the tales of Noah's Ark, David and Goliath, and the Nativity.
As the years passed, Stained Glass Stan became a fixture in the church, a silent witness to the comings and goings of the congregation. He watched as generations of families grew up and moved away, and he marveled at the beauty of the window that had become his home.
Years later, when the church was undergoing renovations, Stained Glass Stan was worried that he would be destroyed along with the window. But the church's custodian, who had grown up with the stained glass window, had other plans.
He carefully removed the panels of the window, piece by piece, until he reached the one that contained Stained Glass Stan and Sugar. He took special care with that panel, knowing that it was unique and precious.
When the renovations were complete, the church's stained glass window was restored to its former glory, and Stained Glass Stan and Sugar were once again the silent witnesses to the congregation's comings and goings. And though he was no longer trapped within the window, Stained Glass Stan felt a sense of gratitude and belonging that he had never experienced before.
