9. Pennsylvania

Summary of Differences:

  • Frequency: Texas and Nevada have annual ethics requirements, while most other states require ethics courses biennially or triennially.
  • Hours Required: The number of hours dedicated to ethics varies from 1 hour (New York) to 4 hours (Maryland), with 2 hours being common in states like Minnesota, New Mexico, and Illinois.
  • Content and Flexibility: Some states, like Nevada and Nebraska, integrate ethics courses with specific state regulations, while others focus more broadly on professional conduct. Additionally, states like Texas and Nevada allow multiple methods (in-person, online, or self-study) to fulfill ethics requirements.
  • Carryover Rules: In many states, ethics hours must be earned within the specific renewal period and cannot be carried over, reflecting the importance of up-to-date ethical training.

These differences highlight the varying emphasis and flexibility that states place on ethics training for Professional Land Surveyors, ensuring that professionals are up-to-date on ethical standards relevant to their practice.
