I'm using a Nikon NPL-332 total station to perform topographic surveys, and I would like to learn how to shoot points with an offset. For example, I would like to hold the prism beside a tree to establish the distance, then turn the instrument to the centerline of the tree to establish the actual position of the point. Is this possible with the built-in Nikon software?

The user guide you posted was more helpful than the Nikon manual pdf I found online.
I was able to do what I wanted with the O/S key, but with a bit of experimenting I found another (quicker) way... here it is in case someone else with the same question comes across this thread: measure the prism, hit the "esc" key once, then turn the instrument to the target angle (the center-line of the tree in my example), and hit the "rec/ent" key to record the point at the new angle. Based on what I read in the user guide you posted, the only downside I see to this approach is that the original point and angle correction are not stored.
