Typical Day Surveying

A typical setup for the Trimble 5600 Robot:Step one: Get a set of tripod legs and set it over your traverse location.(You want to be sure that its at a good height so you will be able to look through the instrument)Step Two: You place the instrument on the tripod legs, locking it down by screwing the tripod and the instrument together.Step Three: You need to get it plumb over your traverse location. So you look through the optical plumb and get it over your location by pivoting on one leg.Step Four: Next you will need to level the instrument. You will need to adjust the legs on the tripod to get the level bubble in the center. After you do this be sure to look back through your optical plumb and make sure you are still over your traverse location(sometimes when you level up you might need to do a minor adjustment to make sure your plumb)Step Five: Next its time to use the electronic level. You will need to turn the robot on then the data collector. Once you do so a electronic level will pop up on your data collector screen. You will need to adjust the screws on the tribrach to get it level.(Be sure to check again and make sure your still plumb over your point)Step Six: Next you will need to do your station setup (set your zero angle on your backsight and give your occupy location)You have now setup a Trimble 5600 Robot!!!

Plan for the best and prepare for the worst...always go armed for bear, even when hunting deer.

  • Yes, Murphy's Law, the day you leave (insert the name of any given tool, or piece of equipment here) back at the office will be the EXACT day that you will need said tool or piece of equipment.  Like a few weeks ago I accidentally left our battery bag in the office, that day the locator batteries crapped out!  Go figure, right?

  • Thanks David for the comment. Yeah when we head out of town for the week we bring a jon boat with us. You just never know what your going to encounter.
  • Nice description!  Is that a jon boat on top of the truck?

  • Party Chief
