Land surveyors over time have devised some pretty innovative methods for storing and keeping notes, primarily because the job requires us to note practically everything.  There is a new service from Google which you may or may not have seen called Google Keep that might help with the note taking tasks of a surveyor.  I'll tell you a little bit about Google Keep and where to go to get it then you can put it to the test and let us know if it is worthy of a professional surveyors toolbox.

Google Keep Keeps Your Notes On Google

With Keep you can quickly jot ideas down when you think of them and even include checklists and photos to keep track of what’s important to you. Your notes are safely stored in Google Drive and synced to all your devices so you can always have them at hand.

Create: Use text, voice or photos to create notes quickly and easily and add multi-purpose checklists.
Organize: Drag & drop your notes and lists to rearrange them and archive them when you no longer need them.
Access: Browse and search notes easily – you can even use widgets for quick note-taking and viewing.

If it’s more convenient to speak than to type that’s fine—Keep transcribes voice memos for you automatically. There’s super-fast search to find what you’re looking for and when you’re finished with a note you can archive or delete it.

There are several things that you will immediately find useful on Google Keep. For one, you can access it both from your Android powered phone and using the Web Interface for Google Keep.

Changing priorities isn’t a problem: just open Keep on your Android phone or tablet (there’s a widget so you can have Keep front and center all the time) and drag your notes around to reflect what matters. You can choose the color for each note too.

Pro tip: for adding thoughts quickly without unlocking your device there's a lock screen widget (on devices running Android 4.2+).
