Main gate of the castle

It was still foggy when we arrived at the main gate of the castle.Over 1000 years ago, here was (as the city archaeologist of Einbeck told us) probably a strong wooden gate in a high stone wall, in front of which was a ditch.It must have been an enormous effort to build this castle with only primitive tools.But over the years, the wooden structures rotted away and the stone walls collapsed.Only ditches and earth walls are the visible remains of the castle.However, the city archaeologist told us there are many old castles with much less remains visible.
