These rapids were one of many sets of rapids on the way from San Salvador, the main city, to Parupa, the mine site. A skilled curiara driver usually had no problems, however, when you read the chapter Kachiri and the Whirlpool, you'll learn about the devastating effects of tipping in these very rough waters.
