Take a look at this map by Stamen called the Burning Map.  Take a look and you'll know what I'm talking about.  It is on fire!

Be sure to zoom in and out to see the flames change.

One area where OpenStreetMap has traditionally had the edge over Google Maps is in the options  developers have had to customise the look and design of a map.
