From our buddies over at Free Geography tools, we were tipped off to some juicy GIS resources from Oxford Archeology and The Human Journey
From Oxford Archaeology’s many efforts in open-source archaeology and mapping, a few links:
- A manual on how to import PDF/SVG files generated by Quantum GIS into the free vector editing/illustration program Inkscape
- An Open Source Survey and GIS Manual for doing mapping with GPS and Total Stations; oriented towards archaeological site mapping, but potentially useful for other applications
- The Open Archaeology Suite, open-source software being developed for archaeological data recording, mapping and analysis, but also potentially adaptable for other applications. Some apps (like the Portable GIS suite, and Crossbones software) are already available, while others are still in development.
If you like this, you should truly check out Free Geography Tools blog. It has days and days of helpful information for all things related to Archeology, Mapping, GIS, GPS, etc.
