Hi Everyone, Here in this discussion, i will talk about doing X- sections of road beds and days gone by of using a planimeter and miles and miles of road beds, this meant sheet after sheet of X-sections, that was first plotted and drawn, then the templates of the design road beds are then drawn, this includes Cut and Fills. your road must have drainage ,so it must have a ditch, Stop right there. This was a lot of work, also a lot of work for your Planimeter and you. A lot of adding and subtracting and dividing and multiplying. so who needs a Computer, somebody Does and did. But there was none where i worked ,not at this time,Finally it did come, But not before we got the next best Thing. What you ask ?, A Calculator, and not just a Calculator , but one you could program, Notice i said one that YOU can, not one that has a program. Because, that is what first came, one's with programs came later. But using a planimeter all day, well this is a ART in itself. If you never used one, how does it work, I will just say it calculates by following the outline of a figure,to determine how much Area in in this figure. I will leave it at that for now. Because all of us who have done this was glad to see a calculator , that would do this. Planimeters are only as good as the person following the outline of the figure, if you are off the area is off. The method i am talking about was used by Surveyors / or Surveying Engineers Firms that built and design Roads and Highways. This little planimeter is also used by surveyors to calculate Area and other things. But lets move on to when we got our Calculators, that we had to program. Why, i told you the others were not made yet, that's one reason, the main reason, because they did not have a constant memory. when you turn it off, and then turned them back on, you have no program, in fact all the memory was cleared. So before you begin your day of calculations, the first thing you had to do ,was to re-program your calculator. So i Guess you know what this means, If you couldn't then you didn't. Now we are lucky, entering a program today you will have it tomorrow and until the battery goes dead. So now back to X- section and one of the reason they were drawn. It is called Volume by Average End Area. The word Average has a big meaning here .This program i wrote ,is a whole lot better than the ones we first used, First this is for the HP 35s. It Is a HP in every way , but every HP calculator programs are a little different, more memory, different storage system, Labels , titles, keys, they all are different. This is a RPN Program, but you have simple to complex programmimg. This program is in it's simple forum, i have not made it complex yet. This is one of the most advance RPN calculators, made today, in fact it is the only Scientific programmable RPN calculator made today. And you will find, not every Surveyor knows how to program Reverse polish Notation, and may not care to know, but some might, and you will find, not all Students care to learn this also, again you will find those who do. So for those who Do, Surveyors and Students , and for those with a HP 35s RPN calculator. The Hp 35 program works just like you using a planimeter, you go around the template in Clock Wise or counter CW. Either way you must stay in that motion that you chose thru out the program until that section of calculation is completed. Who would want to do this, it can be done on a computer. PE and PLS students, cannot use a computer in a Exam Room. Plus it must be done on a Hand Programmable calculator. Not a calculator with a program. So there is a NEED for IT. And they may not even ask to do this on your test or they might. This is also one of those see how it was Done. You can search the internet, and you may not find a program like this. But you got this one FREE. What a Deal. See More
