Surveying shorline

Surveying 2009 lake shoreline in Taylor Valley, Antarctica. Notice the partially submersed mummified seal in the foreground. In the extremely arid environment, disoriented seals travel up valley from the coast and mummify rather than decomposing. Some seals are thought to be hundreds of years old.
