New York State Land Surveyor Licensing

Greetings.  I am considering sitting for my land surveyors license and have a question in regards to verifying my professional experience.  I am 59 years old and have been in the surveying industry for 35 years. I am now in a position where being licensed would be a huge benefit.  Form 4A of the application packet requires that my experience be endorsed by one whom is familiar with my work.  Unfortunately, many of these fine people have passed away and their businesses have been closed or…

NCEES Licensure Exchange Says Surveyors a Dying Breed

So, I was reading the licensure exchange today and there is an article that discusses the fact that registration for the FS and PS exams were down 11% this year over last year, and previous years showed similar declines.  Also the average age of licensed surveyors is between 57 and 61.  There are concerns that surveyors may become too scarce. Me personally, I think this affords licensed surveyors a great opportunity, but what you does the community think?  I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Practice Problem of the Day

What is the definition of a land patent?a)  Exclusive right of ownership of a piece of land by virtue of documentation.b)  A document that identifies a specific person or entity as the owner of said land.c)  An exclusive land grant made by a sovereign entity with respect to a particular tract of land.d)  A detailed description of all aspects of the land, the resources available on the land, and history of ownership.

Preparing for state specific licensure exams

I'm taking the Connecticut state specific surveying exam this October.  I think I understand that it has 40 questions and you have 2 hours to complete it.  There are a few references you're allowed to take in with you.  Beyond that, I have no idea what to do to prepare for it, besides read the references, which of course, I'm doing. Anybody have any thoughts.
