In the past, we've compliled quite a fewtheoretically helpful-to-surveyors iphone apps and even a few that have been designed with land surveyors in mind, specifically. In this discussion, I am going to share even more and begin to trying bringing all of these conversations into one place...here. In the comments, please leave info that you may have about Iphone apps which you have found to be useful in the field for both accomplishing daily surveying tasks or simply productivity related software.
Genius Scan
Need to scan a portion of those building plans and email them to the office? This will make that task a breeze, surveyors! Genius Scan turns your iPhone into a pocket scanner. Fast and streamlined, Genius Scan enables you to quickly scan documents on-the-go, send the scans by email or whole documents as PDF. Unlike other scanner applications, Genius Scan is lightning fast and user input is kept to a minimum.
Brightest Flashlight
Having a hard time finding something in the back of the work truck? This might become your best friend on those days of surveying when you can't seem to find anything! Brightest Flashlight Free is a great flashlight that offers you all the convenience of a Flashlight for your iPhone, iPod and iPad. This is very handy for night time illumination. You can use Flashlight Free not only as a Flashlight, but as a night light and reading lamp as well.
USB Disk
Sometimes the work truck radio just isn't enough. You can use this app to bring your music collection to work with you or carry any files that you need to the field. USB Disk lets you store and view documents on your iPhone and iPod. It has an amazing built in document viewer and is very easy to use, with a simple and intuitive interface, yet it contains many powerful features. You can drag and drop files in iTunes to transfer them to your iPhone / iPod, then view them anywhere.
Compass
We all know what this is. Some of us just prefer to use the sun. Nevertheless, compass is a a measuring instrument which indicates the cardinal points under the sunlight. Put your finger in the middle of the compass and line itโs shadow up with the appโs shading.
Metal Detector
Now I'm not saying that this app will replace your Schonstedt but it could come in handy, surveyors. MetalDetector is a app for iphone 3Gs. It use the magnetometer to measure the magnetic field when the iphone is placed near a feromagnetic metal like iron or steel.
What other apps specifically for iphones do you think would be valuable to a land surveyor in daily life?
