I wanted to share my successful experience locating 3 well heads for Shell O&G with KBR last Friday. Attached are two videos: (several minutes long/about 40 Mbs large. Disclaimer: I was hot and tired when I put these videos together - play nice) We receive calls across TX/OK every month regarding well head locates. After what I experienced last Friday, I am confident we can provide this service as needed with great results. Here are some simple tips and tricks to locate well heads successfully: 1.) Wear Composite Toe Boots, not steel toe boots. This greatly effects Profiler (EMI) data and will interfere with the Schondstedt Mag Locator. 2.) Keep the paint wand above your head or around your back. Again, the Schondstedt is very sensitive and will pick up the paint wand. 3.) Start with the RD7k/8k and locate any utilities/pipeline in the area. These will be false positives and you can eliminate the interfering data. 4.) Scanning: Start with only an acre at a time. Ten foot transects is good. Once you have a spike in gain (sound or level bars) stop and perform a 360 sweep marking the start and end of gain spike. Last, remember this all depends on soil condition and location. If you are in a city environment with overhead power, buried energized data banks, concrete and steel buildings and/or in "backfill" junk soils, the Schondstedt will go crazy.
