Multiflora Rose

Multiflora Rose is a plant which is not poisonous or deadly, however, I would rather roll around in a coil of barbed-wire fencing than try to walk through a thicket of Multiflora Rose - even with a machete.

This is a life- size photo of the barbs on a Multiflora Rose.  These "hooks" tear into you and can immobilize you like razor-ribbon.  Deer can not get through it - in fact, it is a "living fence".  A prison would be well served by a circle of these plants.

It is native to China, Japan, and other parts of Eastern Asia.  It was introduced to the USA to benefit wildlife, but is now considered an invasive and noxious weed.

  • I know nothing of its existence in the Philippines. We do have this type but of shrub class.
