Where are you surveying?

Here a stamp with the image of a planisphere from 1574 and a backstaff from 1695. A planisphere for a certain latitude consists of a round star map with a transparent top on it. This can be rotated according to the day and time, so that stars that are currently visible are shown on the map. The astrolabe (see astronomy ) is the predecessor of the planisphere. The back staff is the successor of the Jacobs staff. The disadvantage of this, namely having to stare into the sun's rays, has been solved with this instrument.
