Much is written about the history of land surveying, but what about the future? In a serialized "Surv-Fi" story in The American Surveyor Magazine we are introduced to Vel "Boomer" Kawashima in the year 2069; independent surveyor, three degrees, four licenses, works on projects all over the world (some remotely from her office) and is also a paraplegic. As an early implementer of new technologies, including a flying scanner and "walking" robotic stations, she faces criticism from some stodgy fellow surveyors who have brought a case against her before the Board of Registration.
