SURVEY PARTY CHIEF / PLS
SUMMARY: Acts as a Survey Party Chief responsible for providing leadership and direction for a 2 or 3 man survey crew when performing all types of land surveys offered by SMA with the following duties:
Is proficient with the set-up and operation of instrumentation required for the collection or layout of survey data in the field (includes RTK/GPS, total stations, controllers/data collectors and automatic levels). Advanced knowledge of the calibration of survey equipment on a regular basis.
Has advanced knowledge in the operation of controllers or data collectors including control initialization, GPS OPUS techniques, layout techniques (centerline and offset staking, curve staking intersections, radial stake out and basic error analysis).
Transmits survey data to the proper files in the computer network, and be able to acquire the data for field use. Able to send data to the office from remote locations by laptop and modem on a daily basis.
Is proficient at reading plans and calculating centerlines, stationing, horizontal and vertical curve data, utility locations curb & gutter and curb returns.
Perform construction staking activities including slope stake, utility offsets, streets and commercial lots.
*Able to prepare neat written field notes, daily records and maintain cut sheets for staking projects.
*Knowledge of survey safety and standard practices.
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of a high school/GED diploma and a minimum of 5 years experience in the surveying industry or a Level III NSPS Certified Surveyor Technician Certificate with 3.5 years experience.
N.I.C.E.T. Level III certified in Highway Surveys or be able to obtain Level III within 1 year.
Licensed Professional Land Surveyor in the State of New Mexico is a plus.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must have the ability to operate a computer and computer software related to surveying and data collection. Software programs include Trimble Geomatics Office and TDS survey software.
Must be able to successfully complete OSHA safety training (including physical); have a good driving record and be able to pass pre-employment and random drug & alcohol tests.
