I have required to find the center of a Tower.I dont have access to measure base of tower using Prism.I can setup three station around the tower.Measure horizontal angles both sides of the tower.Any function on TSC3 to find the center of the tower using angles only.?

I had a similar project. First I had controls around the tower and then I picked the tower all around using reflectorless and plotted into autocad to find the centre of the tower.

  • have you tried a resection method? if you can obtain coordinates at least three (3) points on outer side of tower, the center can be calculated. Pointing on tower with >= 3 points are recommended to achieve better accuracy..

    • Hello Zainul, could you please diagram your method...have resected from within but not from outside? Thanks,Paul

    • Thanks zainul ulum,

Finally i did it same way.But my question is, in Trimble total station, there is a option "cercular object" using that function  instead of "angle and distances" ,could find center cordinate.but I still trying to do it right.I dont have user manual. But it is easy i think.

      • Point 1 has known coordinates.

Establish baseline 1 to 2 and determine bearing and distance between.

At station 1 read bearings to apparent tangent points on tower.

        Repeat at station 2.

Knowing the properties of the circle you should then be able to determine the bearings of the lines from stations 1 and 2 to the centre of the tower and solve the triangle.

The coordinates of the centre and the radius of the tower can then be computed.
