One important aspect of land surveying is the process of leveling. Leveling is the process of determining the relative heights or elevations of points on the ground.

To get started with leveling in land surveying, you will need the following equipment:

Leveling rod - a long, straight rod with marks on it for measuring height.

Level - a tool used to determine whether a surface is level or not.

Tripod - a three-legged stand used to support the level.

Plumb-bob - a weight attached to a string used to determine vertical alignment.

Measuring tape - a long, flexible tape used to measure distances.

Here are the basic steps to follow when leveling in land surveying:

Set up the tripod on firm, level ground. Make sure it is stable and secure.

Attach the level to the tripod, making sure it is properly leveled.

Place the leveling rod at the point you want to measure, holding it vertical and steady.

Look through the level to determine the height of the rod. Record the measurement.

Move the leveling rod to the next point you want to measure and repeat the process.

Continue measuring the heights of different points on the land until you have the data you need.

Use the data to create a contour map or elevation profile, which shows the relative elevations of different points on the land.

It's important to note that there are different types of leveling techniques and equipment, depending on the complexity and precision of the surveying project. This is just a basic overview to get you started. If you need to conduct more complex surveys, it's recommended to consult with a licensed land surveyor.

GPS surveying for beginners - The easy land surveying GUIDEhttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/video/gps-surveying-for-beginners-the-easy-land-surveying-guide2022-08-03T21:22:21.000Z2022-08-03T21:22:21.000ZJustin Farrowhttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/justin

You probably have seen someone with a GPS surveying kit in your life. But what does he do and how it really works?

That is a great question about GPS surveying. GPS surveying is the easy way of land surveying.

Around the world there are many navigation satellites. Those satellites send satellite signals. Based on those satellite signals a GNSS receiver can determine the position.

But that position is not that accurate. That is because there are always obstacles between the satellite and t

Drone Surveying for Beginnershttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/video/drone-surveying-for-beginners2022-03-22T19:38:54.000Z2022-03-22T19:38:54.000Z⚡Survenator⌁https://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/Survenator

Surveying with Drones for Beginners. We do this by finding their distance from each other and in reference to our control points. This is also true for all 10 foot off set points. By finding the coordinates in Northing and Easting, we can then upload these coordinates to our data collector to begin staking. Part 2 – Field Construction Staking We begin by setting up our control network. In this video, I just used a measuring tape and pulled 55 feet from an arbitrary location. I placed a new stake in the ground for this point. We set up our instrument on our first point and a prism rod on our second point to back sight. After establishing our baseline, we then have the data collector tell us to move right or left of the total station, and in and out of the total station. This will pinpoint the location of our points. We place a stake in the ground and go to the next point until we complete all our points.

Fundamentals of Surveying #1: Start Your Engines!
