Traverse correction is a process used by land surveyors to adjust measurements taken during a traverse, which is a series of connected surveying lines or sides. The correction process ensures that the final traverse is accurate and meets the required standards.

There are different methods for traverse correction, including the Transit Rule and the Bowditch Rule. These methods can be implemented in a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel to perform the calculations efficiently.

To understand the process of traverse correction in Excel, let's focus on a closed traverse, which is a looped traverse where the starting and ending points are the same. The steps involved are as follows:

Data Entry: Enter the survey data into an Excel spreadsheet. The data typically includes the observed angles, the measured distances, and the coordinates of the traverse stations.

Calculation of Adjusted Angles: Calculate the adjusted angles by summing the observed angles and applying the appropriate correction. In the case of a closed traverse, the sum of the observed angles should be equal to the sum of the interior angles of a polygon, which is (n-2) * 180 degrees for an n-sided polygon.

a. Apply the Transit Rule: According to the Transit Rule, the correction for each angle is calculated as the difference between the sum of observed angles and the sum of interior angles divided by the number of angles. This correction is added to or subtracted from each observed angle.

b. Apply the Bowditch Rule: The Bowditch Rule involves calculating a correction factor (CF) for each angle. The CF for an angle is calculated as the difference between the sum of observed angles and the sum of interior angles divided by the sum of the measured distances. The correction for each angle is then obtained by multiplying the CF by the measured distance for that angle.

Calculation of Adjusted Distances: Calculate the adjusted distances by applying the appropriate corrections to the measured distances. There are different methods for distance corrections, such as the Compass Rule, Transit Rule, and Crandall's Rule, but for simplicity, we will assume the measured distances are already adjusted.

Calculation of Coordinate Corrections: Calculate the coordinate corrections for each traverse station by multiplying the adjusted distances by the cosine and sine of the adjusted angles, respectively.

Calculation of Final Coordinates: Calculate the final coordinates of each traverse station by summing the initial coordinates with the coordinate corrections.

Closure Check: Perform a closure check by comparing the final coordinates of the starting and ending points. If they are not the same or within an acceptable tolerance, further adjustments may be required.

By following these steps and implementing the necessary formulas in Excel, land surveyors can efficiently perform traverse correction for closed traverses using the Transit Rule or the Bowditch Rule.

Best Practices for Control Points and Tool Setup in the Field

When it comes to surveying and layout work, accuracy is paramount. Control points play a crucial role in ensuring accurate measurements and layout. In this article, we will discuss the best practices for control points and tool setup in the field, highlighting the key considerations that can help improve accuracy and efficiency.

Quick Reminders before Working: Before delving into the best practices, let's quickly recap some essential points to keep in mind when starting a new job. These reminders will set you up for success:

Use Accurate Control Points: It is imperative to use precise and reliable control points. Accuracy in control points is fundamental to achieving accurate layout results.

Allocate Sufficient Time: Take the time needed to establish your control points correctly. Budget at least half a day on your first workday for analyzing, troubleshooting, and verifying the accuracy of control points.

Collaborate with the General Contractor (GC): Share your findings regarding the control points with the GC. This communication ensures that the information can be synchronized and utilized by all trades on the job site, enhancing accuracy and boosting your credibility.

Work with the Surveyor: Whenever possible, collaborate closely with the surveyor from day one. Observe how they establish their control points, inspect their work, and gain insights into their placement strategies on the job site.

Best Practices for Control Points and Tool Setup:

Center Your Tool and Have Clean Angles: Position your total station in the center of your layout area to maximize its reach and minimize the need for frequent repositioning. Additionally, ensure that the angles between control points and the total station are clean and preferably around 90 degrees. Avoid extreme angles to minimize errors and maintain accuracy.

Have Access to 4-5 Control Points If Possible: Aim to have access to at least three control points, preferably four to five. This provides flexibility in stationing your tool at various locations on the job site. It also allows you to eliminate control points that might have shifted or become inaccurate while maintaining a sufficient number of reference points for accurate stationing.

Ensure Control Points Encompass Your Layout Area: Make sure your control points are strategically placed to encompass your entire layout area. This ensures that all your layout points fall within the control points, guaranteeing accuracy and consistency throughout the job.

Identify Secure (Unmovable) and Stable Control Points: Identify control points that are secure and unlikely to move. Avoid using control points that are susceptible to displacement or disturbance. Secure control points provide a reliable reference for accurate stationing and layout.

Implementing best practices for control points and tool setup in the field is vital for achieving accurate and reliable surveying and layout results. By following these guidelines, surveyors can enhance accuracy, minimize errors, and improve efficiency on job sites. Remember to use accurate control points, allocate sufficient time for analysis and troubleshooting, collaborate with the GC and surveyor, and strategically position your total station for optimal results. These practices will contribute to successful and precise surveying and layout work.

how to convert csv file to shp area filehttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/video/how-to-convert-csv-file-to-shp-area-file2023-03-10T20:25:52.000Z2023-03-10T20:25:52.000Z⚡Survenator⌁https://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/Survenator

A leveling calculation spreadsheetcan be used to calculate the elevation differences between two points in a construction project or topographical survey. The basic formula used in such a spreadsheet is:

Elevation Difference = Elevation of Point B - Elevation of Point A

The spreadsheet would have columns for the names of each point, their respective elevations, and the calculated elevation difference. To use the spreadsheet, the user would input the elevations of Point A and Point B, and the spreadsheet would automatically calculate the elevation difference between the two points. The spreadsheet could also be set up to allow the user to input multiple sets of points and automatically calculate the elevation difference for each set.

I got a call from another surveyor i i work with occasionally here in central california he's a good man i've known him for a long time and he told me a story he he got a call from a law firm that was working on a commercial real estate transaction and they sent him over a land title survey that his company had done i don't know four or five years ago and the the email that he got the Message you got from the law firm was uh hello you know so and so land surveyor we need you to update this land title survey and return it to us as soon as possible and you know they said something like we're trying to close in five days you know blah blah blah that was it that was the whole email and so he called me and was kind of like can you believe this can can you believe What i got from this law firm and we kind of had a good chuckle but i i wanted to tell you that story because i think it it it illustrates a couple really important lessons either a if you're the law firm working on commercial real estate due diligence or b if you're the land developer real estate investor landowner that's hiring that law firm right so there's some there's some lessons for both parties there so before We talk about the lessons like what's the problem what's the problem with the email that that that law firm sent to my friend well there's there's four major problems with that so i'm gonna go through them one at a time number one the law firm that's running due diligence on that transaction is either negligent or incompetent the fact that they could send that email Without understanding what they were asking for is a huge red flag right that that's a law firm that does not know what they're doing right and i'm gonna explain that uh here as we go through these other reasons you'll you'll see why that that becomes clear okay what's the second major problem uh the second major problem is my friend the land surveyor had no contractual relationship with either the law firm or their client So you don't get to just call up a land surveyor with whom you have no contractual relationship and ask for that kind of favor right that's just first of all it's it's illegal in california for a land surveyor to perform those kind of services without a written contract so the law firm was basically asking the surveyor to break the law he needs to have a contract right and then for liability reasons he needs to have a Contract with whoever's asking for that so that was the second major problem no contractual relationship what we call privity a contract and the law the third prop major problem was uh whoever sent that email the law firm that sent that email there was no recognition on their part that conditions may have changed either on the ground or in the record right they're just trying to check a box like oh we need an updated title survey Right without any understanding of why an updated survey was being asked for or what a surveyor needed to do to prepare an updated survey like they were just trying to check a box right like if all you need is somebody to check a box don't hire a lawyer hire your 13 year old cousin she can check boxes on a checklist right so that just they they were they were just trying to check a box without without really understanding why this was part of the Real estate transaction and then finally the fourth major problem was there was no recognition here that in this situation the land surveyor was owed some reasonable kind of compensation for the for the alta survey update or the land title survey update so all those are major problems right there was there's just and that's why my my friend called me and we had a good chuckles like this This is just it's unbelievable that a professional law firm would even call and ask that of a professional land surveyor so what are the lessons let's start um if you're the client so if you're the real estate investment trust or the landowner or the land developer and you've hired this law firm to do your commercial real estate due diligence and they pull a stunt like this what what what do you what does that teach you Um hire a good lawyer and then pay attention to what your lawyer is doing um you don't want to just go hire any old schmuck law firm you don't want to hire a law firm that doesn't have experience with commercial real estate due diligence and land title issues you know you need to hire an attorney that understands what a land title survey is and what its role in the real estate process is and then you can't just hire An attorney and put them on autopilot right even with a good attorney you need to pay attention you need to ask questions you know i have an accountant i have a cpa at my company i have a human resources consultant you know we we get we have a business attorney we hire out outside expertise when we need it but i'm i am totally comfortable with asking my experts questions why are you doing this do we need to do that what about this i need Some basic level of understanding of the work that they're doing i don't get into the details that's why i hire them they're the specialists but they need to be able to explain to me what they're doing and why and it needs to sound reasonable right and so in this case you can't just hire a law firm and turn them let them off the leash right you need to understand why are you contacting the surveyor what are you asking him what do you need from him Okay so you can't just abdicate your duties okay what if you're a law firm what if you're a law firm doing commercial real estate due diligence what does this teach you don't embarrass yourself you know train and supervise your your paralegal right i assume in this case it was a paralegal that was actually reaching out um to to the surveyor so um just You you don't get a pass because it's your paralegal you have a you have a legal obligation and an ethical obligation to supervise the work of that paralegal and your paralegal either needs the proper training to understand what a what an altar survey is and and when an update is required and if she can't get that or he if they can't get that training from you then you need to hire help so get the right kind of help If you have to if you're a law firm and you're and you're processing lots of commercial real estate transactions maybe you need to have a land surveyor like me on contract to provide assist assistance with those transactions right to read and interpret the land surveys and to manage the surveyors that are working on your transactions like you either have to put the time in to figure this stuff out or hire the right person to help you do it um don't half bake it Especially at the hourly rates that that you guys typically charge i think that you you owe your client better than that and and when you when you allow a request like that to go out on your law firm's letterhead that that's an embarrassment that's something that you should be ashamed of right that that i just i would be embarrassed to be that law firm and then finally whether you're the the land title officer or the paralegal Or the land attorney or the the real estate investor understand the role of the surveyor and the role of the survey in the commercial real estate process if you don't know ask questions right if you don't understand why i'm involved and what i'm doing it it could burn you right and so you need to put forth a little bit of effort to educate yourself and if you know most surveyors if you call them up we do a Horrible job of marketing as surveyors but most surveyors if you give us a call we are more than willing to tell you what it is we do and why we're working on your transaction right most surveyors love to do that so call your survey or talk to them right or take other reasonable steps to understand yeah you know ask your attorney ask your real estate broker why are we being asked for a survey what needs to be on a survey what does it Take to get a good survey is there nothing wrong with asking those questions and then finally respect the land surveyor as a professional right if you're an attorney or a land title officer or a real estate investor right you're all professionals right land surveyors are professionals you don't call and ask me to update a survey that i haven't seen on the ground in five years who knows what's changed in the Record right i don't have a contract with you and there's no discussion of compensation right that's just a total lack of professional respect and dignity so all the survey updates are not free you need to educate your paralegal so that they don't expect free land title survey updates and you need to understand and respect the role of the land surveyor and the land survey in the commercial real estate

Drone Testing in field for
TRANSCRIPT:

I guess we'll come back to serve angled Robert so had some guys on Facebook keep me up about cocoa routines about rotating points in a file using trouble access so I know that cocoa routines internal access can be a little kind of different especially if you're used to serving a pro but I'll tell you what I'm going to show you how to do that today we're gonna load up some points and I'm gonna put this to give it for you I'm Gonna show you how to rotate through really a lot easier than you think so I'll tell you what hmm let's do this let me get this set up you guys watch this [Music] you down okay I'll get everything set up you ready to go so you guys check this out so what we're going to do is I've already created a job I've just called it red tape so we're gonna go into jobs we're going to import/export I'm going To import fixed format I'm going to go find rotate accept okay so I should have these points in here now if we go back to jobs we'll go back to properties job and look feature library I don't have anything let me show you the old trick or clayton's so if I go into map you can see you can see my points of map so there's all my points but watch what happens if you use a feature library so if I go to properties a job feature library I'll say training which is one I'm using and we'll say accept now look now we've got lines in here so to me this is huge because especially when I'm rotating points and stuff like that I like to see what's going on I don't like to just rotate a big group of points and not know that everything really rotated so this probably be my first suggestion to you because I'm not big on rotating points out in the field I'd rather do it in a office but I realized sometimes you just don't have a choice here's what We're gonna do and this is actually rotating points is a whole lot easier than you think so if I go into menu COGO I go to transformations now I'm all set rotate points so you have different options here rotate scale and translate rotates obviously what we're going to do scale would be like I want to adjust the scale I'm not exactly sure why you'd ever want to do that and translate is really handy like if you're sticking some grade and the contractor comes up Say hey I want to do base course you can actually translate all the points up like six inches per base course if you need to so let's stick with rotate so here we go so when you see the screen gets a little terminating because chances are what you guys typically are seeing is this you're seeing an origin point and a reputation and you're like I don't know what I've got to get out and calculate the angle and all this other stuff this is just Crazy this is hard this is difficult it's an easier way do it now I'm gonna tell you this older versions of access this is pretty much all you have the newer versions and I don't remember which version it was all I can tell you is a newer version they changed this they realize that this was an issue so check this out if you go out here to reputation there's these three little dots with this arrow on the side if I click on that and I say to Asmus now Look what happens I have azmuth one and asthma two so we know our origin point is point number one that's the point that in our little scenario we're going to say that's the point that we found what were what we're saying is let me go back to the map real quick what we're saying is is here at point number one we found that iron pin so then if you keyed in all the other corners and you put that in so now you're looking for them so typically we might go in put in point Number one we'll put the bearing on the plaque we'll go up here and see if we can find number two so based on that bearing and distance so let's say that we found pointing to but we shot it stored in this number five now what I want to do is I want to rotate this whole thing to match up to point number five over here so what I'm going to do is I'm gonna go back to my transformations back here and I'm gonna go in I'm gonna say to Asmus but I'm Gonna use the calculator this is the part that I think people miss so I'm go to calculator what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna say asmath so now look what happens between two points you have some other options in here what we're going to use today is between two points so if I say from point number one to point number two I want to know what that azmuth is I say except there it is I say accept so now it's populated in here so now asthma's number two that's what I Want this is where I'm rotating from this is where I'm rotating to so number two same thing two as months I'm gonna come down here to calculator I'm just gonna clear out what I had I'm gonna say azimuth again and this time I'm going over number one and I'm gonna go to point number five and I say enter and accept so it gives me that I say except there's that bearing so now then I've got buffering Zener I've got the frame from 1 to 2 and then from 1 to 5 and That second one is 1 I'm rotating - okay so let's hit next right here it says this is basically what it's asking you is what points do I want to rotate so I'm gonna say add and I'm gonna say selection from a job because I know that I just want to go from 1 to 4 or the points I want to rotate so 1 2 3 & 4 I want to rotate those to where it matches up with line 1 to 5 so now we're going to say enter and there's the four points that I just chose you'll note my command Codes on here for drawing that line work I say except applied to define transformation yes for points were transformed there you go it's rotated all of them to fit that and we can we can easily see that everything is rotated by the way so I hope this helps get you pointed in the right direction the cuddler routines and access really aren't that difficult they're just different than what you used to pretty much everything's in there I've got a Few other things that I'm looking at that some guys have asked me for then I'm gonna try to put together so it's kind of a slow process this is Monday morning and I should be getting them truckin any Mississippi right now and I'm building you this video so just kind of give you an idea how my life works so anyways guys be safe like and subscribe if you subscribe you get notified every time that I post a new video and if you like that tells me What you guys enjoy if you like it then I'm I'm headed down the right path so help me out with that would you so anyways if you guys have got any questions just give me a give me yell give me a shout and as always be safe and I'll see you guys on the next video thanks a lot

Convert Survey Pro files to Access or Origin files - Surveying with What are you going to do with all those old Survey Pro Jobs? Can I convert those and use them in my new collector? In this video I show you how to convert those files and use them in Access or Origin data collectors.

TRANSCRIPT:

Ah hey guys welcome back to surveying with Robert's Tuesday tip so when I was out in Vegas I talked to the Trimble guys about making some kind of uh converter inside of access that we could take a survey Pro job and convert it to an access job well maybe someday but it sounds like they are pretty hooked up and that's not going to happen so I thought what I Would do is I would show you guys how to convert these files using terminal Business Center I don't get excited you don't have to go out and spend four thousand dollars for a copy of software just to convert the uh the files for your your survey Pro job files over to access job files you can download the free version of Trimble Business Center and you can go in there and drop the files in and Export the files out and I'll show you How to do it so what we're going to do right quick is I want to um I just want to get some shots and um I just want to get some shots so we can bring them in so what I've got is survey Pro like 5.8 or something like that on the status collector so what I did is I went out and grabbed the survey Pro data collector and I grabbed A uh r8s's so I thought this would be a little bit more real world and I used 5.8 because that is pretty close to the version where they added the R8 S's so I thought this would be a good you've got old survey profiles and you want to convert those to access or to origin so I thought this would be good and I didn't have any job files on my computer so I'm out here In The Wind in the cold just for you guys doing this for you guys freezing to death runny nose wind blowing so uh I just want to show you guys how to convert these files because I know I've got a few people that have switched over to access and they're having that issue right now themselves so I just uh thought I'd jump out here Get a few shots and today is Tuesday should have done this yesterday I got tied up with a bunch of stuff wasn't able to do it honestly I don't have time to do it right now I should be on the computer helping some people with some stuff but if I don't uh get it done it's going to be dark on us and then that ain't gonna work out so well so enough to mention the fact it'll be Colder right so um I was going to do this yesterday afternoon and it started raining on me so I wasn't able to get it done so just a few more shots just so we got something to look at and we'll take it in there and we'll convert it in business center and we'll see what it looks like and yes I'm currently using the insta 360 camera that some of you saw me carrying around at uh at Dimensions that you guys were asking about um it's actually a pretty cool camera it uh would be cool to use it you know if I was wanting to post some Social Media stuff some videos on Instagram or something like that you can actually process everything In your phone if you wanted to but I use the desktop software okay last one I'm about to turn into a popsicle so let's go in here and see if if we can convert these files from survey Pro over to access or over to origin and we'll see how that works I've got both so we can try and see what happens okay So we just shot all that stuff out there in the driveway now I'm going to show you how to take it from a survey Pro survey file to a um or actually I think this this is an old enough version it may be a survey Pro dot job file I'm going to show you how to bring it in to access or not intact yes I'm going to show you how to bring it into access but first thing I'm going to show you how to bring it into Business center okay so the thing about business center is I do not have my license plugged in so I actually have the old school dongle Hardware lock right here once the big one because I've had mine forever I don't I didn't get one of those cute little plastic things so cool Pelican cases for mine because I've had mine way Before those came out okay so let's go in here and load up terminal Business Center so um I've got an older version of survey Pro on this data collector but the reason for that is because I figure you you're going to have older survey Pro job files that you're going to want to convert over to an access file right so you've you know decided to go ahead and bite The bullet and get origin or get um you know access or whatever and you've got all these old job files and you're like how in the world am I going to convert them well be nice if jumbled been counting on their toes and um would have um you know built some kind of converter in Access or something so you could bring a job file in and convert it but they Didn't so we got to do it the hard way so you're going to download you're going to go to if excellent let's just look at this real quick let me do this if I just Google Trimble Business Center download terminal Business Center so here's what you're going to do you're going to go in you're going to say download the latest Version when you do it is going to pull my internet to slow tonight it is going to ask you your name blah blah blah if you do not want to be bothered with a sales guy calling you down here at the bottom if it says do you have a current software license say yes or it's going to ping me or ping somebody in your territory and you're going to be getting a phone call because trimble's gonna send out a lead on Business Center so just just say yes you got it unless you and if you want to find out more about business center ask me how's that so anyways you're going to do that when you do that they're going to send you an email so you're going to be looking in your email watch your junk box sometimes my land's there but watch your email you'll get an email and it'll say um that you know you can download it gives you a link to download terminal Business Center so to do this you don't need a license in order to do what I'm fixing to show you so you can download this for free installed on your computer at the office convert the files that you want to convert unfortunately we have to do them one at a time I don't know a better way to do it but just do them as needed I guess so let me get out of here you know how to do that now it's okay Now then I am going to go to Us survey foot scale only and I hit the default button so it defaults to that template and I think I got a I started the TBC 101 um I've kind of pulled back on that a little bit I'll explain that in a later video but um I do I think I did put some on there About template for uh TBC but you guys may want to look at some will say okay so it's going to create project now then it creates this grid now you probably heard me complain about this before it was a little bitty icon down the bottom maybe there's a way to make these icons bigger but I'm not exactly sure so I just go down here click lower right hand corner down here at the bottom little B icon shows grid I just get rid of it okay so the way I've got mine set Up from years past is when I plug in a tsc3 or a ranger 3 or anything else I get this paint on the right hand side that um it's the device manager pane yes device devices direct connection but it's I get connects me straight up with with the mobile device center to the data collector anyways so if I go to survey Pro and I open it I'm going to find a um survey Pro to Access now then if you bring this over with your um like jump drive or something like that right you you bring it over any way you want to just drop it straight into access when you do it's going to read why do I keep saying access you're dropping into business center I got too many programs going on in my head okay we're going to drop it into business center here it is Boom you're going to see all the vector lines and Everything attached okay so you're not worried about this because you're just wanting to get this to another data collector so I am going to window everything I'm going to go up here to export not to pull down below it up here at the top there's like two buttons right there okay that one's export formatted or you don't want that you just want the export up here at the top you're going to come over to survey And you're going to scroll down until you find Trimble access job file exporter that's the one you're looking for so what I'm going to do to make this a little bit easier on us is I'm going to say file save as and I'm going to call this um let's just call it s p Q axis SP to access Save okay so now let me back up I'm going to close that I'm gonna go to export again keep losing my mouse okay so now you're gonna see it says SP to access.job okay it's populated it's going to put it in the directory and I'll show you where that's at so we've selected all those shots And I'm going to export it out um file version that should be let's just go whatever General survey version you've got I'm going to say 2210 which is going to be the latest you know what I don't think I have that emulator on here let's back it up to where it was about 20 21 10 is probably about right so we're going to say export so if I go to here terminal Business Center I go to documents Trimble Business Center SP to access open it up there is my job file right there I'm going to copy that and on your data collector you can go and triple access you can go to job data file explorer and it'll take you to the same place I'm fixing to take you so it will take you to um C drive C drive I'm going to program data I'm going down to Trimble somewhere Trimble okay in my case I'm going to go to this emulator projects field work there's all my jobs in there I'm going to say paste so I'm going to paste it in there so now I'm going to go to channel access let me look here I think I've got 20 2201 in there which is General survey 22.00 I may be In trouble I may not have went back far enough says it's in there open speed access open okay it's asking for a project right um project height is your ellipsoid height so basically what that is just say like 22 to 27 meters below your elevation right so you have your ellipsoid and your geoid together make your orthometric height so they're Asking for height which is your ellipsoid height this is so access can calculate basically between like grid and ground and stuff like that so I'm just going to say 200 is close enough for me I'm going to say accept and there's no points so I brought those into access so if we go and look job data file explorer see what I mean it brings you into the same spot um there's the jobs just FYI And if I go to uh Point manager there's my points there's one I brought them in so all that good stuff if I go and look at my job and SP to X says I'm gonna go to properties right now it's set on local site because I wasn't able to put that project in there okay so I could go in select from library I know what it's supposed to be So let's go down to let me grab that would be a lot easier if it did how about just use here on the keyboard and I'm gonna set my project to go in here I'm going to say m for Mississippi the east geoid model I don't see what I'm looking oh there it is okay I got you or no Project type 200 enter store accept and open okay so now everything is like it should be okay so now if I went back and I looked at my project under SP to access properties everything is exactly like it should be so let's go and make sure Um so let's look at some coordinates here let's look at um there's 100 let's click right here properties and then if I go here and we look so uh 36 221 83 859 2015.944 okay so now everything is Exactly like it should be so if you had a license a business center you could just go up there to um your local site stuff and local site settings and we could set our height but didn't say it was gonna be easy and I would really like for Trimble to put a converter in Access or An Origin one or in both would be great so that I can bring this Job file over to um to either one of them so since access and origin are pretty much the same thing so that my friends is how you're going to have to export out your job files and bring them in now another way is I could if I wanted to right here I could go back to home I'd go back to Export I could go to custom and I could go to Northern elevation uh Northern easting elevation and code and I could export those out as a CSV file the job exporter we looked at while ago you can't get to because of the license they're not making it easy on you to convert it so this to me is the best way to do it if you if you've got I've had this stuff in my computer for so long I don't know If this is something I built or it came with it I think it comes with it I think it comes automatically in business center but I'm not 100 sure that maybe you guys could ping me and let me know um but if you could use that that would actually export it as a CSV file at those points or like I said to get the access the other way didn't say it was going to be easy but that's how you can do it you can get it done you're not stuck okay so Um man uh heck of a Tuesday tip huh so um got a lot of things planned a lot of things I want to put together for you guys I've been meaning to get this out for like a month and I just haven't been able to get it done so I got that out um I put a podcast up um coat Ratliff Kevin Rainey my Mississippi sales guy and um myself we did a little podcast about triple Dimensions so uh it's on Spotify I saw it on Apple I didn't put it on YouTube um I just wasn't able to get the cameras put together Colt and I have decided we're going to try to get something done every week we've said this before but we are both so incredibly busy it's hard to do but we're gonna try to get something it may not be anything that spectacular but get something out there anyway so guys hope this helps Um I hope you enjoyed the video um like I said you can ping me you know on Facebook or on YouTube or whatever and um let me know if you have any questions if I need to do it like a follow-up with this because um like I said it's not the easiest thing in the world but it can be done so as always God bless take care of you guys uh take care of yourselves Um and uh I guess I'll see you guys on the next video as soon as I come up with an idea for another one take care

5 Things The ALTA Survey Specification Doesn't Tell Youhttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/video/5-things-the-alta-survey-specification-doesn-t-tell-you2022-11-14T21:11:48.000Z2022-11-14T21:11:48.000ZJustin Farrowhttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/justin

The ALTA survey specification does not turn a boundary survey into what I call single number commodity so what does that mean single number commodity a single number commodity is a product or service you can select or choose by considering only one number the sale price okay so that's what a single number commodity is uh like maybe a box of cereal could be a single number commodity right all right so or a gallon Of gas could be a single single number commodity all right so you can't treat all the surveys like a single number commodity uh some people think that just because there's a specification that means all the surveys are the same and that you just go choose your Alta survey based on the lowest price that is a mistake I see it happen almost all the time so 98 of the time that's all people care about when they're getting an altar survey is the Price that's usually because the wrong person is buying the Alta survey usually it's the usually it's the buyer the buyer's agent and it needs to be the bank that's lending the money uh but that it is what it is okay so hopefully if you're watching this you're a banker and you're the person with the money on the line because then you'll understand why you can't treat altar surveys as a single a single number commodity so I'm going to illustrate it this way it'd be Like buying an Alta survey based only on the price would be like going to buy a car and oh and only looking at uh the price as long as it had four wheels and a gas cap right uh yeah you're gonna get some wildly different results there right like yeah four wheels and a gas cap that's a pretty broad range there bro you're going to get a broad range of product there right so if you don't if you don't understand a little bit more About what you're looking for as far as far as quality and type there right model um you're not you're not you're not going to get the kind of car you want right and so it's the same thing with the Ulta spec you know the Ulta spec is kind of like saying it's the bare minimum right it's like saying okay your survey has to have four wheels and a gas cap all right that's great is it an SUV or a go-kart You know is it a four-wheel drive or does it you know is it two doors or four doors is it a Ferrari or uh you know a Ford Bronco uh like yeah those are big huge differences right okay so why can't you treat an auto survey like a single number commodity well because there's a lot of things that the Ulta survey specification doesn't tell you as the client right or the buyer okay so what I'm going to give you an example what kind of things am I Talking about I'm gonna give you five things that the Ulta specification does not tell you okay now there's other things but I'm just going to give you my first five all right so here you go number one it doesn't tell you what table a items to check in fact the table a in the specification is blank okay so none of the boxes are checked all right and you don't want to just check all the boxes because then you're going to pay for a bunch of stuff that you don't need Okay so that's the first thing it doesn't tell you what table a items to check number two it doesn't tell you what the table a items mean the specification does not say that most of the table a items in the spec are one or two sentences right that's why I do a lot of videos here about what the table a items actually mean number three the specification does not tell you how much the table a item should cost back the specification Doesn't talk about costs at all so um you can't you can't properly weigh risk versus cost there right uh you need you need to talk to somebody about that you need to talk to a good surveyor about that number four it doesn't tell you what the base survey should cost right so it doesn't say if you're surveying this many acres or you're surveying this many linear feed of boundary the cost should be X that's because you can't price Surveys that way so um you know you need to talk to somebody about uh the cost versus quality trade-offs there right somebody you trust okay number five it doesn't tell you how to determine if the specification was met the spec doesn't say anything about that right so you want to work with the consultant you trust uh because you can get a garbage Ulta survey and never know right and uh that's gonna that's gonna cause problems Down the road potentially if there's if there's a boundary or land title issue so those are just five things that the specification doesn't tell you there are more things that the spec doesn't tell you you got to remember the specification is a bare minimum standard right it's like going to shop for a car and tell it's like hiring your brother-in-law to buy your car and then telling your Brother-in-law oh I want the cheapest car you can find that has four wheels and a gas cap right like yep that's not a good way to buy a car it's also not a good way to buy an Alta survey so if you care about the quality of the Ulta survey don't treat an altar survey like a single number commodity it is not a single number commodity you want to work with the land surveyor you can trust to provide answers that aren't in the specification right so I I you know I Would love it if a banker right called me up or if a buyer called me up and said Landon I need an Alta survey talk to me but here's what I'm trying to do I want to build a shopping center talk to me about what do I need based on based on what I'm trying to do in this particular parcel what table a items do I need tell me what that's going to cost tell me what the base survey is going to cost you know what can I do to change that price you know what if we include Or leave things in or out you know what can we do um I will have those conversations absolutely and I won't charge for them most of the time if you call me I I would love to have that conversation with you most of the time I get a form that says we need an Alta survey put your number at the bottom right that's not a good way to buy all the surveys that's the way most people buy all the surveys Um and a lot of times they get garbage right you might if you're going to do that you might as well not get an ALT survey right because what you're going to get is garbage you're going to get a go-kart and not a Ferrari right um and you may not need a Ferrari but if you want a Ford Bronco and you get a go-kart instead you're going to be disappointed right so don't buy the go-kart right have a com you know there's a reason why land surveyors are supposed to be

Government
