Surviving an election year

Memories from presidential election years in the USA remind me it is a difficult time to be a surveyor.  It seems nobody wants to start a new project until they have a plan for the future.  With the election process up in the air it is hard for most people to predict the future of our national government.

I was tired. Now I am retired.

Now that I am a retired surveyor I may spend more time thinking about my garden than thinking about surveying.  But I still find some topics interesting.  You may see a response from me once in a while if I think there is something I can add.  Mostly I will lurk because I do not ponder new technology.  New…

ProFlex500 RTK base station updated after pecan tree removal

It seems reasonable to think that removing the huge pecan tree east of the ProFlex500 base station antenna would influence the OPUS results.  But my first OPUS report following removal of the tree was included in the current average NAD83(2011) position.  This remains a work in progress.  Over time there will be more OPUS sessions.  Each time I will decide whether to include it in the average or begin…

Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors

Perhaps we need to rethink the title the next time this comes up because some of what I plan to illustrate is the use of GLONASS with GPS.  Perhaps we should call this…

Using SD cards in a ZMax receiver

This seems like very old news but it has become a frequent question lately.

How do I prepare SD cards for use in the ZMax GPS receiver.

I created a new application note named

Prepare ZMax for field work

It has been added to the ZMax application notes folder on the ftp server… Read more →

Internet RTK work is challenging

Here is a photo of the new GPS+GLONASS antenna for the ProFlex500.

Now it is about the ProFlex500 and how to set it up as a RTK base station. I was able to record a long static session that let me get an OPUS position for the base. The location is not ideal but OPUS processed the data anyway.

Soon it will be time to set up the RTK base station and let other people connect to it.…
